Jesus is a party-pooper.

Little Timmy of 9 years old came home one Saturday afternoon from his friend Joe’s birthday party.

He asked his Mom, “Mom, is Jesus a party-pooper?”

Curiousity blanketed the mother and she said, “Why do you ask that Tim?”

“Well, ” said Tim, “Last night Joe wanted to watch a move and asked if I would like to. The cover looked creepy so I listened – and told him Jesus told me not to. Joe seemed mad, but picked out another and well Jesus told me not to watch 3 more of Joe’s movies. Then Joe asked if I wanted to play Witchcraft the PS2 game this morning. Jesus told me not to – so I told Joe no. He asked me why and I told him “Jesus told me not to.” Then we played that race-car game I like and we had fun. Joe won but that games rules!! Then before lunch Joe wanted to play Resident Evil too. I said no, Joe asked why and I told him Jesus told me not to.
Well just before I got out of the car before we pulled up to the house just now – Joe asked me if Jesus was my uncle or something. I said no, then he asked who He is. So I told him, Jesus is my God and Savior. I live for Jesus because He died for me. Just like Jesus told me. Joe said, “Well Jesus is a party-pooper.” And told me to leave Jesus out of it next time I came over. What should I do Mom? Jesus lives IN me – how can I leave Him out of it? Is Jesus a party-pooper?”

The mother said, “”No, Tim Jesus isn’t a party-pooper.”

Timmy asked, “Then what did Joe mean?”

The mother looked at Tim and asked, “What does Jesus tell you Joe meant?”

Tim scrunched his face up and closed his eyes…”That…Joes party was not a party…? Ummm…because He wasn’t invited.”

The mother’s eye brows raised and she smiled, “There’s your answer.”

Tim cocked his head and looked at his Mom, tears began to well in his eyes, then drip down one cheek. The mother reached out and held Tim close and asked him why he was sad.

Tim said, “Because I don’t think I will be invited to any of Joe’s parties.” he sniffed “and I don’t want  to hurt Jesus’ feelings.”

The mother asked, “Do you think Jesus’ feeling are hurt now?”

Tim looked up and said, “Yes, but not cause Joe called Him a party-pooper.”

“Why, then?” The mother asked.

Timmy hiccupted and said, “Cause Jesus told Joe not to watch those movies or play those games and he didn’t listen…and Jesus loves Joe and wants Joe to come to His parties.”

The mother cupped Timmy’s face in her hands, saying, “Timmy – Jesus knows Joe better than anyone and just like He knows you and me, Jesus will always tell you the truth and protect you with it. When you listen to Jesus and do what He says, other people will call Him a party-pooper – liar – and lots of names. They may even just call you those names because they don’t want to believe Jesus can talk to us like that. Yet when you and I listen, we will go to Jesus’ parties and it will always be the best parties!
I am glad you listened to Jesus because Jesus parties but never plays. Play is pretend – like the car game – play isn’t real – its fun for a while but then the game ends – the movies shuts off. Jesus parties, He doesn’t play, not like a game. Jesus parties because He won a war a long time ago, and we are always invited to celebrate. Joe’s party ended, but Jesus is still with you. You will always be faced with listening to Jesus or playing at life. If we stop to play we’ll miss the party. Do you understand?”

Tim nodded and smiled, “So..last night I went to Jesus’ party, not Joe’s. Jesus is not a party-pooper cause His parties don’t end like Joe’s did. Jesus told me the truth and protected me and kinda protected Joe too, cause I listened to Jesus!! Jesus really loves Joe and came to his party too, I guess. And Jesus and me are still at a party right now?”

The mother said, “Yes Timmy, Jesus will always be with you at His party in your heart. We can keep the party going right now – lets go make Jesus some party cookies – What do ya say?”

Timmy, “Jesus says I can…so lets go Mommy – Jesus loves parties. And He told me to tell you He loves you too Mommy – and me – and Joe – and Daddy. I like Jesus’ parties!”

The mother smiles, “Me too, Timmy – me too!”

If tears could liquefy into ink (or 1’s and 0’s in this case) and place themselves as words on this page – a small river would be cascading into your lap. Tears – that I taught not, my children to listen to their Savior’s voice 1st – as if their lives depended on it. Tears that this practice is considered “radical”. Tears that so many are deaf to the only Voice that can lead them truly home. Tears that the strength found within our weaknesses is encoded in the DNA of God’s voice.

Daniel 10:15-19
After he had said these things to me, I looked down at the ground and couldn’t speak. Then someone who looked like a human being touched my lips, after which I could open my mouth and speak; I said to the one standing in front of me, “My lord, it is because of the vision that I am seized with such anguish; I don’t have any strength. For how can this servant of my lord speak with my lord, when my strength and breath have failed me?” Then, again someone who looked human touched me and revived me. He said, “You man, so greatly loved, don’t be afraid. Shalom (peace) to you; be strong, yes truly strong.” His speaking to me strengthened me, and I said, “My lord, keep speaking; because you’ve given me strength.”

Society is unraveled and unhinged in the blocking out of His voice – in His Word, in His people (our brothers and sisters). Because they don’t have degrees or a life that looks “worthy”, NOT worthy of Him but of what WE have made Him. Tears poured out on the fears that encapsulate the soul and kidnap it from Love. Tears written in a language that could not, would not, can not, will not, be ignored…if only. Would that these tears could invoke one soul, just one – to say; “Yes, Father, Your voice is what I must educate myself to excell at and teach as the heritage to Your children, start with me!”

Listen yet again to Jesus. To His Father…our Father, our Savior…listen…

Mark 9:7
Then a cloud enveloped them; and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is My Son, whom I love. LISTEN to Him!”
Matthew 17:5
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them; and a voice from the cloud said, “This is My Son, whom I love, with who I Am well pleased. LISTEN to Him!”

John 5:19
Therefore, Yeshua (Jesus) said this to them: “Yes, indeed! I tell you that the Son cannot do anything on his own, but only what he sees the Father doing, whatever the Father does, the Son does too.”
John 8:28, 47
So Yeshua (Jesus) said, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I AM [who I say I am], that of myself I do nothing, but say only what the Father has taught me.”

(Jesus speaking) Whoever belongs to God listens to what God says; the reason you don’t listen is that you don’t belong to God.

John 10:27 (Jesus speaking)
My sheep listen to My voice, I recognize them, they follow me

Its all very straight forward, theres no parable being taught here by Jesus. Sure theres deeper meaning, but the plain meaning of His words are not negated in the going deeper with Him into them. But lets face it, theres something that gets missed as we read about Yeshua (Jesus), the Messiah, the Lamb, The Son of God. Everything Jesus said and did was not copied out of the old testament, it was NEW, the old backed it up, but the Lord Jesus lived by the heeding and sending, speaking and teaching, what in every moment His Fathers voice was telling Him as it happened, as He lived in each moment. This is why we NEVER read from ANY account how Jesus came up to His disciples and said stuff like, “So, today we are going to go to Galilee, heal a few people, I’m going to teach a sermon on this mountain, then we’ll head to the lake and go to Samaria.” One of the things that consistanty perplexed our beloved writers of the Word we read now, is how Jesus/God shows up in the moments as they happen without much concern for itineraries. Our God is a God who walks with us in each and every moment we live, speaking, directing, leading, guiding, and correcting as we go. He guaranteed our ability to follow Him with His Spirit…the Counselor, the Spirit of Truth…again listen to what He said.

John 14:16 (Jesus speaking)
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another comforting Counselor like me, the Spirit of Truth, to be with you forever.

John 14:25-26
I have told you these things while I am still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you everything; that is, He will remind you of everything I have said to you.

It may well seem radical, or even actually be radical to think that Jesus may have actually meant what He said and did. That we, too, can and do have now access to His/the Father’s/the Spirits guidance every minute of everyday, like Timmy in the story. Indeed, it IS AMAZING and outside this world kinda living. This is what He meant when He said to be IN and not OF. This world’s voice says, “Think for yourself, go with the flow” Yes it contrary, but that is exactly the two ways we are tempted everyday to think and live, taught, educated, honed, and groomed to do in this world. Jesus IS STILL TEACHING an different way, “Think about Me, ask Me, seek Me, I am the Way, I will show you, I will guide you, I know the Way, I know You better, I know everyone you can or ever will know better, let Me show you how to love, how to give, how to speak, how to serve, where to go, when to go. I will provide everything you need, depend completely on Me.”

I wish, as a Mother I would have taught my children the true education worthy of losing everything for. Of course, I didn’t know then as I know now, so today I can begin. Its never too late :-)! My tears are stored up in His bottle of Sorrows to be turned into joy…so I pray for you, reading this right now, and any I come into contact with from this moment to the next that I can stand boldly for the hope that is within me, my Jesus, who is a very real Savior, who speaks to me everyday, and is trustworthy beyond all telling. Here is Jesus, Listen to Him! His truth is protection, not party-pooping, sap the joy outta living, it really does bring a peace beyond any this world can offer, He IS All you need.

AMEN… you are so right…. to be followers of Christ doesn’t bring an end to the party…. actually it is when the party begins! (It is the beginning of true joy peace and contentment) Lord bless you… thanks for the great reminder.
