Parental Perplexities

July 30, 2012 at 12:38 am (WSGD Newes)

Simple struggles can often be the most un-obviously deep.

I often find in quiet time reading…people referring to how a parent responds to their child in such a way as I have never experienced. Indeed, I could say the majority of those I’ve known would agree. There are some exceptions, but I speak of a personally experienced over-all.

First, my own experience as a child with my own parents. Second, my own experience as a parent to a child. Thirdly my realm of others both friends and family that have shared their struggles in both ways with me.

Let me clarify here my “mission” is not to find blame for which all parental frailties and faults lay. Nor to even put a spot light on that perspective in any way. Yet, as I have observed to date; I believe a persons greatest struggle with God and how to relate to Him lay upon the horizon of how we grasp a father, mother…ie: parent. If this area be ascewed in any way we stand the risk of misunderstanding our primary reason for drawing breath everyday.

The illustrations in the Bible of God being 1st our Father, then referred to as like a mother, with illustrations of each, they abound, and are abundant.

Matthew 23:37 – Yeshua (Jesus) speaking.
“Jerusalem! Jerusalem! You kill the prophets! You stone those who are sent to you! How often I wanted to gather your children, just as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, but you refused!”

Psalm 27:10
Even though my father and mother have left me, Adonai (the Lord) will care for me.

Jeremiah 31:9
…For I am a Father to Israel, and Efrayim (Ephraim) is My firstborn son.

Isaiah 49:15
Can a woman forget her child at the breast, not show pity on the child from her womb? Even if these were to forget, I would not forget you.

And the infamous parable in Luke 15:11-32 of the Prodigal son. To name a few.

Then there’s John, his book is overflowing with references that are clear. The Father (God) and the Son (God) are irrefutably inseparable! And plainly Yeshua (Jesus) states that our main objective IS to know our Father, as He knows the Father.

John 5:23 – Jesus speaking
so that all may honor the Son as they honor the Father. Whoever fails to honor the Son is not honoring the Father who sent Him.

Yeshua answered them, “Stop grumbling to each other! No one can come to me unless the Father- the One who sent Me – draws him. And I will raise him up on the Last Day. It is written in the Prophets, They will be taught by Adonai (the Lord), Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from Him comes to Me.

I and the Father are one.

I am the real vine, and My Father is the Gardner.

Whoever hates Me hates My Father also.

Just to name a few. I encourage a thorough reading of the whole gospel to grasp the full impact of this theme.

So my own personal perspective of father and mother is a frame of reference for which I relate to God. As is yours. And that in mind I come back to the beginning of my post. This strange link between parent and child and how often I don’t relate to much of an authors references to them which beautifully ( at least that’s the intention) tie a hopeful and encouraging purpose between us and God. I am learning…and do find a clearer mind in understanding this. Growth in our walk is given to re-learning and much un-learning what we have known, if you will. So this is part 1 of a series where I will share much of my un and re-learning with you. I pray that you will ask the Spirit, our Counselor to begin to open your mind, eyes, ears, and heart to His specific “highlights” as you go through your days this week in preparation and healing as we journey our walk together in this series. Please pray for me, as I study and write these, that the Truth be fully honored, the Shepherd be the direction pointed to, and the Father made known and glorified.

Jesus was asked how to pray. His first suggested words were: “Our Father, who is in Heaven.” There are so many who fail to grasp the significance of those first words, what it means to call God our Father, it breaks His heart. Let us therefore, seek to KNOW exactly how HE would have our hearts from within fully respond to such an opening of our prayers. To fully KNOW Him as a Father, the Father HE IS, not the kind we’ve known, or WE could image He would like us to think He is. But as He truly is, and can teach us at His feet.

More than Mere Words (Spurgeon’s Faith’s Checkbook)

July 27, 2012 at 1:57 am (Remodeling the Mind)

More than Mere Words
July 27

I will give you the sure mercies of David. (Acts 13:34) Nothing of man is sure; but everything of God is so. Especially are covenant mercies sure mercies, even as David said “an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things and sure.” We are sure that the Lord meant His mercy. He did not speak mere wards: there is substance and truth in every one of His promises. His mercies are mercies indeed. Even if a promise seems as if it must drop through by reason of death, yet it never shall, for the good Lord will make good His word. We are sure that the Lord will bestow promised mercies on all His covenanted ones. They shall come in due course to all the chosen of the Lord. They are sure to all the seed, from the least of them unto the greatest of them. We are sure that the Lord will continue His mercies to His own people. He does not give and take. What He has granted us is the token of much more. That which we have not yet received is as sure as that which has already come; therefore, let us wait before the Lord and be still. There is no justifiable reason for the least doubt. God’s love, and word, and faithfulness are sure. Many things are questionable, but of the Lord we sing — For his mercies shall endure Ever faithful, ever sure.

Yes! Let he who has ears…let them hear! The Word of God is spoken here!

Love of country is not the same as love of God

Love of country is not the same as love of God.

For reasons beyond our current upcoming elections, current status of democracy, or moral degeneration, I am driven to make a little forgotten fact/truth of history repeat itself.

At the time of “our” immigration from Europeans to Americans…the flee was from “religious” persecutions to “freedom”. In common tongue…we wanted to read the Word of God for ourselves! In the European nations the fight to get a Bible into print for the masses was a costly one. Then to get the “Church” which had truthfully and wrongfully weaved its way into politics and therefore “heads of state” or government; to recognize the right of commoners’ to read the Bible at home was essentially viewed as taking power away from the “powers that be” ie: the “Church/government”.

This is why we came…what birthed this nation. Not the fight to remove God from community! The government had used God as power for themselves, realizing that from Him came the basic ability to comprehend moral and upright behavior. The Bible taught these things first…in fact…invented it!  And as every human ever conceived can attest…the 10 Commandments can be viewed as rules to live by that can be used for control rather than release, relationship, and freedom; which was the purpose of God in giving them…not control! Though none can argue, get a set of rules that keep humans – human and much can be accomplished! Hence the use of keeping the higher ups with the power to read and give interpretation to the Word of God to the masses. So…Tyndale among countless others lost their lives way before America became a thought…to fight for the Spirit of God to be allowed to imprint Itself through the Word to anyone who had eyes or fingers and a desire to know God for themselves.
THIS is why America is America!

And what has it become since its declaration of “independence”?
Is it held as an honor to be able to read your Bible everyday? Can anyone really go back and find when that costly fight became a distant memory and religion took its place? I am heavy-hearted at how distant common sense has become and simple dependance on God has lost its appeal.

Obama and politics; big corporations and economy are NOT the reason our freedoms have eroded. Not anymore than Rome was the blame for it in Jesus’ day. Or Kings in the Old Testament days.

The right to read and learn no matter a persons class or station came with our birth as a nation. In honor of The Book that we now had the “right” to read…this was the first book anyone was taught to read in our schools way back then. Huh, guess the rationale was, kill two birds with one stone, or if you’re going to do it; do it right from the start. Teach one to read what produces life, and life will be lived not just read. It goes along with the old saying; teach a man to clean a fish and he can eat a meal, teach him how to fish and feed him for life!

The grace of God has been lavished, even though man takes the grace and forgets it! That is how you know its God’s grace. He gives it anyway…no matter what we do with it. If you really want to teach your children what America was formed for…get out your Bible and begin to read to them, teach them to read it, and trust God to do the rest. This is our God given right, not to vote, not to speak, not to do whatever we want, but to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God.
