The Letter Continued…

So, there I sat for an unknown amount of time, I did not think to look. Here’s what the child spoke.

Well, I was a’walkin down the walk and my Friend said to duck and roll! I was’jus watchin Mr. Keip swingin his cane, ya know all jolly and a’whistlin. But my Friend see, He never does tell me a thing without some good heart, so I duck and roll. Well it seems to me just in time too, cause there ya be a’bendin over me and Mr. Keip’s cane would’a knocked ya clean I’m sure!
Then my Friend says, “Ya go on with that one now.” So then we come here! Now my Friend, He sticks with me, no matter, but ya just seem to see only me! Did ya notice my Friend? Why He was a’workin on ya, while ya was a’cleanin my hands and such. Ya had these milky-like scales on your eyes! And the whole time ya cleaned and fed me, He just a’kept a’peelin those off like flakes of skin! Ya sure have a deep down brown in your eyes, ya know! And without them filmy things I could see right inside, like your soul was a’caged behind the fog!
Then my Friend says, “Rest here.” So here I was a’restin in your fine bed, never have slept in such a fine bed in all my life! And I dreamed all night that my Friend kept a’callin ya in while I was a’sleepin. Givin ya a learnin time to rest yourself.
When I a’woke He said to stay and follow Him. I was a’walkin into the kitchen and found I was right on your heels! My Friend was a’handin out thoughts and a’placin them inside ya, like He was a’peelin your scales, now the light was a’shinin!
I couldn’t help but sit and a’watch ya glow!
Then my Friend says, “A helpin hand is a healin hand.” So I jump up and start a’helpin Him heal! I like to help Him! And there He is over at your door a’callin me.
Thank ya kindly for invitin us in, was the best meals and sleep I ever did know!
Oh! Don’t ya worry none about my Friend, He will be your Friend too, I’m a’thinkin from now on, since that’s how He collects’em I reckin!
I have to go now, but thanks again. I’m glad your eyes got better and ya got the glow now! I’ll see ya soon I reckin! Good day!

Just like that the imp was up and out the door! Here I sit writing to you. Trying to take it all in! My word, and here I was thinking I was doing a good turn for the forlorn child! And all this time the imp was me! I have seen this Friend once before. The memory seems to come from a time when I was a small child playing with Whiskers out on the bay. I shall be pondering this more as the days go on. I do hope I see the imp or the Friend again soon.
I pray this finds you well, and in good health. I shall look for your response with anticipation.

With Love,
H

The Voice – Part 1

Do you hear My Voice?
Shall I introduce you?

Listen to a letter. Written long ago. Many many years ago. You see the Voice rings True in any age, at any time. It comes from no gender specific persuasion, no “race” of human origin has been excluded from its hearing or speaking. The young, old, rich, poor, sick, well, simple, complex, all – all have heard it and been chosen to speak it. The outward look has never qualified nor disqualified for My Voice. There have never been such ideas of “ugly, fat, skinny, tall, short, perfect skinned in tone, color or texture”. All have been counted as beautiful, wonderful. Yet here is one letter. I will not “paint a picture” of the writer. Human, this is the only way I will describe the hand that wrote it. Listen…listen to The Voice.

Saturday, May, 1934

Dearest Father,

I write this day having heard a most charming story. Still swept off my inner-feet, my hand shakes from what has been imprinted on some indescribable part of me, I knew not of its existence until I listened to the little child speak. They had fallen, quite clumsy down on the walk right in my path. Dear me! I nearly trampled the imp! Ready, therefore to do a good turn to one less fortunate, I stopped and offered the child a meal. Delighted, we strolled into the back walk and into the meal room. There I washed what must’ve been a years worth of dirt from their hands, feet, and face. The child, obviously an outcast of this society, remained aloof and submitted to my administrations. The simple stew was already warmed and bread sufficiently cooled by then. Oh my, how the imp ate! There’s something about watching the hungry eat, a well-fed man’s meal. Have you ever had such an occasion to do so? It quite filled me up with just the viewing of such consumption! Then a nice cup of water was the only thing the imp would drink after. I do believe the Good Lord must’ve turned it into wine! Such a drinking I have never laid eyes on! Thirst simply flew like a bird with wings!

I know you deem my words poetic, yet…is it possible…I never have read nor written such poetry as watching this poor child eat and drink this day? You must try not to picture the child eating like a starved animal. I beg you, believe me the imp was quite civilized as the food and water were consumed, truly. Not a word had come from the imp’s lips yet. I quite thought the child with no speaking tongue. Perhaps unlearned? I ran a bath, and bless me, tucked the imp, quite charming into my spare bed for the night. I had strange dreams that woke me the night through. Not bad, just urgent, causing me to rise and check on the child all night. I do not believe I have ever slept in such peace as was registered on the child that night. It struck me as the first fall of a fluffy slow drifting snow.

The sun arose and we took our break of fast with Jenny’s eggs. You remember I told you her hens lay the eggs of the Gods! Still not an utterance from the child. A smile here and there as what seemed a thank you. So serious this imp! The light of their eyes seemed to hold a thousand lifetimes. Yes, I quite thought it possible by gazing at the child, I was betwixt! The imp must have learned a hand of work as they helped me, quite tidy, the kitchen. I sat down at the table and then the imp spoke! The proceeding words etched themselves on every surface it vibrated off of, my ears the least of which quite truly!

I will attempt to do the recounting with justice, though the presence of the imp can not be conveyed nor repeated and it spoke as audibly as the imp. Simple words to start.

“Shall I tell you a story?” The child said!  Shocked! I do believe my jaw lay upon my lap. I dare hope I recovered as I had no choice, mind you, but to simply say, “Why, yes!”

(The letter continues in part 2, hope to “see” you there 🙂 )

Work Is Done; Rest in Him (Spurgeon’s Faith’s Checkbook)

Work Is Done; Rest in Him
September 28

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. (Hebrews 4:9)

God has provided a Sabbath, and some must enter into it. Those to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief; therefore, that Sabbath remains for the people of God. David sang of it; but he had to touch the minor key, for Israel refused the rest of God. Joshua could not give it, nor Canaan yield it: it remains for believers.
Come, then, let us labor to enter into this rest. Let us quit the weary toil of sin and self. Let us cease from all confidence, even in those works of which it might be said, “They are very good.” Have we any such? Still, let us cease from our own works, as God did from His. Now let us find solace in the finished work of our Lord Jesus. Everything is fully done: justice demands no more. Great peace is our portion in Christ Jesus.
As to providential matters, the work of grace in the soul and the work of the Lord in the souls of others, let us cast these burdens upon the Lord and rest in Him. When the Lord gives us a yoke to bear, He does so that by taking it up we may find rest. By faith we labor to enter into the rest of God, and we renounce all rest in self-satisfaction or indolence. Jesus Himself is perfect rest, and we are filled to the brim in Him.

Separation Undone!

Inspired by Psalm 107

What but the Lord of me
Could come and rebuild this frame I see
Lo better and more sturdy if not full up of His beauty
Better than when in ruin I fell?

Such a view – sweeping
Of a window in a Presence keeping
Vastly granite mountains teeming
Over a valley beaming

LIGHT refracted a’sparkle off all
Everywhere a vision can fall
Dew dancing upon the blades
Singing up a Restore’ers praise!

Wild creatures pulsating peace
Come! Partake! This royal feast!
All bounty a day can give!
Water unending, nourishment sending
A soul into the Heart of its rest

See the cascades of Joy
Oft and yonder the Kings employ
Swooping down in enchanting dives
To all that death and dying strives

LIFE! The infinite key
Of all thats noteworthy left of me
Held upon a hole-scarred hand
With Love in reverse timeless sand

All flowing back to The Master plan
Always the end was the means!
Held here in this precious end
So onward can the song now send
Me ever into a shining Son
Remade upon His victory won!

All that is separate undone!

Worthy is the Lamb!

Revelation 5:6-14

Then I saw standing there with the throne and the four living beings, in the circle of elders, a Lamb that appeared to have been slaughtered. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the sevenfold Spirit of God sent out into all the earth. He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of the One sitting on the Throne. When He took the scroll, the four living beings and the twenty-four elders fell down in front of the Lamb. Each one held a harp and gold bowls filled with pieces of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people; and they sang a new song,

“You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals; because You were slaughtered; at the cost of blood You ransomed for God persons from every tribe, language, people and nation. You made them into a Kingdom for God to rule, cohanim (priest) to serve Him; and they will rule over the earth.”

Then I looked, and I heard the sound of a vast number of angels – thousands and thousands, millions and millions! They were all around the Throne, the living beings and elders; and they shouted out,

“Worthy is the slaughtered Lamb to receive power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory and praise!”

And I heard every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth and on the sea – yes everything in them – saying,

“To the One sitting on the Throne and to the Lamb belong praise, honor, glory and power forever and ever!”

The four living beings said, “Amen!’ and the elders fell down and worshipped.

May we join them…

May we join them? A little check inside my spirit rings like a little service bell. Can I join them? With pre-occupation with how I do, when I do, what I do, if I do for Him? Is then the focus on the Bride or the Bridegroom? On the garment she wears or the crown on His Head? Focus on Him? Or focus on Him in me?

Ahhh, here He is! Here He is enthroned in my heart leading me into the Truth! Cascading my countenance to His glory!

Little checks (√) in the heart are His specialty! They call us out on the water to Him! There we “fall in” and join all of heaven and all creation in worship of…
