Forgiveness…

There is no other topic that leaves us more feeling empty handed than this. But what exactly is it when God forgives? What is He asking, better put, urging us to do?

Lets get “into a heart to God” state of mind first, shall we?

Psalms 119:111-112
I take Your instruction as a permanent heritage, because it is the joy of my heart.
I have resolved to obey Your laws forever, at every step.

Psalm 119:129-130
Your instruction is a wonder; this is why I follow it.
Your words are a doorway that lets in light, giving understanding to the thoughtless.

John 1:16-17
We have all received from His fullness, yes grace upon grace.
For the Torah (Law) was given through Moshe; (Moses)
Grace and truth came through Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus Christ)

John 3:27
Yochanan (John) answered, “No one can receive anything unless it has been given him from Heaven.

John 5:22-23
The Father does not judge anyone but has entrusted all judgement to the Son, so that all may honor the Son as they honor the Father. Whoever fails to honor the Son is not honoring the Father who sent Him.

John 8:31-32
So Yeshua (Jesus) said to the Judeans who trusted Him, “If you obey what I say, then you are really My talmidim (disciples/followers), you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

John 13:34-35 (Yeshua speaking)
I am giving you a new command: that you keep on loving each other. In the same way that I have loved you, you are also to keep on loving each other. Everyone will know that you are My talmidim (followers) by the fact that you have love for each other.”

John 15:16-17 (Yeshua speaking)
“You did not choose Me, I chose you; and I have commissioned you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last; so that whatever you ask from the Father in My name He might give you. This is what I command you; keep loving each other!

John 19:30
After Yeshua had taken the wine, He said, “It is accomplished!” And, letting His head droop, He delivered up His spirit.

John 20:22-23
Having said this, He (Yeshua) breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit)! If you forgive someone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you hold them, they are held.”

That last verse, consequently, the only verse that uses the word forgive, is one that almost every one stops, chews, and scratches their head. If you hold them, they are held??? Hmmm…wonder what that means?

It was this particular verse that has kept coming back to mind as I have “chewed” on this idea of “what is it You do Lord when You forgive?”. That and one other.

Matthew 16:19 (Yeshua speaking)
I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you prohibit on earth will be prohibited in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.

These two scriptures have this same mysterious link between what we do and what is done in heaven.
There is one other, the epitomy of all that Yeshua accomplished.

Matthew 6:9-13
Our Father in heaven!
May Your Name be kept holy.
May Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us the food we need today.
Forgive us what we have done wrong, as we too have forgiven those who have wronged us.
And do not lead us into hard testing, but keep us safe from the Evil One.
For kingship, power, and glory are Yours forever.

Forgiveness is powerful. Its the prime ingredient to love. When I close my eyes and look at Yeshua on the cross…I see PAIN. This is what God feels when we sin. Pain. It hurts Him beyond measure that we reject His instruction, leadership, guidance, protection…love. So, again God gives us a physical sign ( Yeshua hanging with the whole of humanity’s sin, in more pain than anyone, ever and ever will suffer in pain) of sins offense.

To forgive, therefore, is…

A choosing with a absolute whole heart, mind, soul to release one from the bondage of your hurt!

Inside, where it is 1st unseen, then by obedient action, where it can be seen. Go back and read the above scriptures, slowly and stop and ask the Spirit to define the boldened words. See how they all connect. Mystery solved, at least for this wee lamb in His flock. In so far as the head knowledge, the heart application may take a wee bit longer to apply. But O, how I am willing! Oh so willing to receive from my Yeshua (Jesus – Salvation) His accomplished work on that cross! May He make me a giver, on earth as it is in Heaven! To the glory of the Father!

Grace and peace in Yeshua the Messiah ❤
