What WOULD Jesus do?

November 15, 2012 at 5:25 am (Remodeling the Mind) (, , , , , , , , , )

Would Jesus overindulge on garbage food while climbing out of a debt hole from buying things He couldn’t afford to keep up with neighbors He couldn’t impress? In so many ways I am the opposite of Jesus’ lifestyle. This keeps me up at night. I can’t have authentic communion with Him while mired in the trappings He begged me to avoid.

~ Jen Hatmaker – quote from her book 7 An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess

If you are a human being…those words will go down the pipes of your eyes to your brain and either stop there and die; or make their way to your heart and begin to grow. The Truth has that effect. No other living organism on this planet has need for such new ways of thinking. All of the life in the creation around us shows us very visibly the absurdity of how we live. Life takes nothing in excess, only that which it needs daily. It does not argue with its lack. Drought is not perceived as “unfair” to the ground. Or to most creatures that depend on it. I say most, humans, though they deem themselves more significant, are the only exception! God gets the blame for our own unwillingness to believe and trust Him. Its rather appalling! We send up weather prayers for our comfort and convenience, otherwise we don’t mention it. Unless its “raining on our parade”.

I get the chills in 90° weather, seriously, I can wear sweats and a coat in summer! So you can imagine that anything below 70° tempts me to complain. I have always been this way, so no, its not some health issue. God just made me this way. The last several years God has been forming within me an invincible summer. I don’t pray for Him to change the temperature to suit me, I pray that I may be changed enough to be whole heartedily ready to follow Him into what He knows all of His creation needs to do His will. This means spring, fall, and especially winter are times of warfare for me. Warfare being times where I am tempted to ask God to treat the whole plot of earth I trapse around on as if I were the only one on the planet. Let me be clear, the colder the air the more physically painful it is for me. This only gets worse as I get older.

The whole world of humanity has a serious problem with their “sight”. Near-sightedness – far-sightedness, cataracts, and flat out blindness. Yeshua (Jesus) is the only cure for our lack of vision. Living as He said and did, this is the answer to all of our dysfunctions. It is not a matter of culture and timing that hits us between the proverbial eyes as offensive to accept this. Its plain flat out refusal to want to put our self-absorbed, self-reliant, self-indulgent, and self-destructing little existence out. I am so grateful that God is on the move and in the business of waking people up! He started this kind of corrective vision work in me a while ago. I get no credit for it at all! Books like the quoted above have been coming out in droves (sadly they don’t fly off the shelves). Provisionally God is gracious to order circumstances that fairly suck one into the tunnel of His vision, it actually takes a whole lotta energy to fight Him. No wonder we are so dang tired! Its not earth changes, global warming, drought, pollution, excessive weather, bad food, lack of physical exercise or proper eating habits that makes the whole of humanity want to kill themselves with comfort. No, its the long haul of fighting against what and how we are made, Who we are made for, that so blinds us to our own sustaining abiding peace.

God’s patience and long suffering, forgiveness and grace is so astounding! He must be determined to save His people! There’s no other explanation for how, why, and what we are still doing here so deserving of being thrown into an eternal prison of our own making. He has no doubt that Love covers a multitude of sin. He is Love! Hoorah God! You really are!

Grace and peace in Yeshua the Messiah ❤
