Something to Say

Ephesians 4:2-3; 25; 29-32

Always be humble, gentle, and patient, bearing with one another in love, and making every effort to preserve unity the Spirit gives through the binding power of shalom (peace).

Therefore, stripping off falsehood, let everyone speak truth with his neighbor, because we are intimately related to each other as parts of the body.

Let no harmful language come from your mouth, only good words that are helpful in meeting the need, words that will benefit those who hear them. Don’t cause grief to God’s Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit), for He has stamped you as His property until the day of final redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, violent assertiveness and slander, along with all spitefulness. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted; and forgive each other, just as in the Messiah God has also forgiven you.

Today, as no other time, we can paste our words, opinions, and thoughts for the world to see! Social media, blogs, and personal sites abound! It has been heavy on my heart how we use these platforms. Especially those who claim to be marked out by the Spirit referred to in the above verse in Ephesians. Humans have mastered the art of manipulation. Its a tiny seed with a pungent sensory contribution! Like a weed, it invades even the productive fruit in the garden. It weakens the best of intentions to serve and honor our Lord with our lips.

I wonder how often does it occur to some to ask God what they should say, ought to say, have a right to say. The latter is the biggest realm of error almost every time. It is a misconception to think “we have a right to say whatever we feel, think, or want”. No so in the Kingdom of God. Often what we think is right is very very wrong! It really always depends on how thoroughly we are letting God define our words, instead of the way our perceptions define them. Take the above word in Ephesians; harmful.
What is harmful to say? The following words help us know this. Anything not good, helpful, anything that meets no ones need. This is directed at what we say that leans out in another’s direction. We are not to speak to our need, our help, our good when speaking of or for other’s. Keeping in mind, that God is ever at work in us due to our complete tendency to fail, we speak as if He is continuing to do so in them! As if what we may see or are encountering as blindness, resistance, or lack of love, is in fact on its way to perfection! Just like it is in ourselves. We have times and days of total blindness, deafness, and blackness. We reject truth, take personal things that are not, make something about us when its not, and generally define the world by our lousy state of mind some days. All without losing our sculpting status on Yeshua’s (Jesus) potter’s wheel. We are lavished by grace! What benefits your readers? Better to ask God what is beneficial! Not to you but to all who may be reading! If we are honest, the scope that encompasses is so vast only God is capable of giving us the “right” words for everyone that may read our blog, Facebook, Twitter and so on!

A friend, unfriends you because they don’t agree with something you have posted. You posted the item in question from a pure heart for God. So you exchange words, likely to clarify and bring peace, but to no avail. You, then make a separate post to announce the unfriending to “say goodbye” for all your friends to see; naming the unfriender and their offence. You then post a slew of slogans and quotes about “hey if people reject you – let’em go!” Manipulatively “sending a message”.

Who did this benefit? To cover an offense is God’s way. Yet it was announced to dozens of people, if not hundreds! Was it helpful? That is to those friends that remain still? Was it helpful to the Spirit of God at work in you, them, others? What are the fruits of your posts? Inside you? You can’t begin to know what spitefulness produced in all those who read the posts in retribution! Too many, think this is “standing up for one’s self” in a good way. If you are standing up for yourself, God will let you and stand off to the side. No where in scripture does it say we are to “stand up for ourselves”!! If God is who we stand behind, then His standing in front is all that’s needed! Be wise, and consult the Wise One on everything you post! Every seemingly innocent word, let Him guide you even when it makes no sense to you! He will cover all!

I see this kind if thing on brothers and sisters walls all the time! It grieves the Spirit!

Another example is:
How the Word of God gets quoted! ALL CAPS, with the intent to emphasize, littered with the all-uninviting language of “ya better get it right, see it this way or you’re a fool, lost, apostate, sinner”.

Is this how Yeshua spoke? To the masses? Don’t confuse His confrontational rebukes to the Pharisees as His tone for all at all times! Remember also,He was speaking to the leaders that were looked to as teachers! He was there in person seeking a right relationship with them. His rebuke was aimed at their rebellious hearts, with the intent to teach them. Yet how He taught the masses; look at where and when and how and apply the truth! Don’t think for a minute God speaks with such condemnation to you much less others! Does a good teacher write their lessons IN ALL CAPS TO MAKE SURE ITS SEEN AND HEARD IN LOVE? Do they speak it once and then dub the learners idiots because the message didn’t get through the 1st or 20th time? Is this how our long-suffering, loving, kind, patient Lord has shown Himself? All caps, whether we may see it as fine or not, comes across angry. A few here and there can emphasize, but the entire thing comes across angry and preachy. Now a days our children are preached at, instead of taught, pastors preach instead of teach. Teaching is a commitment to sit, repeat, engage however long it takes! This is the heart of God! Hence 7000 years for all man-kind, and still He has not “dismissed the class”. This is why we are taught in the Bible to keep in mind our own failure to “get it”, our own need for patience…humility. Notice it is always the starting motive for speaking. Then patience, tender-heartedness, forbearance. The only thing that “qualifies” one as saved or found is the unblinded eyes that are learning to see again. If our sight has been reborn, it still needs to grow, take in, and be instructed as to how to “file” things correctly. It takes time. I think this is why God is so patient! He has eternity to teach us! There’s no need to shout it, and cram it. The Spirit of Jesus is at the core of patience. Motivated by a complete desire that we learn. Then we teach as He has taught us. Coming along side, remembering how often we desired to see what was being taught, but it just wasn’t “clicking”. It never meant we were lost, God’s timing is perfect and precise to each individual. The order of the lessons get taught as He knows each person needs. God is a tutor! One on one, but for the benefit of the whole body!

One can be steadfast in repeating the Word of God, without using a hammer. God knows our hearts to stand for Him out of love for His unspeakable goodness. Litter His Word with the things above when posting it, don’t grieve the Spirit with it. Invite, both opposition and questions and affirmation and praise to the One who wrote it! Don’t let questioning and opposition fool you! God wrestled with Jacob!! All night!! He is able to arrange the truth, He is the One who takes charge of its distribution! And He has never done it the way we think He should! Hence He does indeed become a great offense! To pry up our pride! For exposure to His light! Its a good thing! Thank God for it!

Again, ask Him how to enter into His work. Let HIM reveal to others how lost they are, that is not, and never will be our job or duty. As we can not possibly know how God is working in someone else’s heart, working all things together for good. Do we believe this? Let us speak and act as if its true!

Lastly; and I will try to be brief 🙂
There is a spirit of condemnation that leaks out of many who think they have “found the right way to follow God”. This comes out awful during “holidays”. The spirit of condemnation and name calling in the “name of speaking the truth”. My dear fellowsheep, do as God calls you to do, worship and follow, but no where are we told to give out prescriptions for anyone else! Our lives are to be a witness, not primarily our mouths! If you see a brother or sister fumbling, pray for them 1st. Then ask Adonai if He would have you speak to them in private. You will be amazed how often He will tell you “I Am speaking to them, and hear your prayer, continue to pray but let Me do My work, teaching.”
It is startling how often He tells me this. When the world I live in screams “speak speak speak!”. As if when one does not they are being apathetic. Not true! If my Lord says to, as I am now, I will pray for His Spirit to take my tongue and stand up to be His mega-phone. But if He says, “Be still”. I will do as He says, not what feels “right” at the time. Is this not exactly what Yeshua exampled over and over? Using every opportunity to point us to Our Father? His language only used name calling tactics with those who were claiming to have The authority to teach the masses. He did not call anyone a hypocrite at the sermon on the mount, when the “general public” was the majority.

These forums are public! Facebook, Twitter, and blogs. As such we need to be extra connected to our Lord, and cautious with what these forums are saying; Who we are pointing to. I am not speaking now to those who claim their Facebook walls, Twitters, and blogs as their own; I am directing this towards those who say they want those things to Glorify God.

I hope to encourage here! To build up in the Spirit of the Most High God. Let us use our opportunity to shine on these “pages” a Light! Good things, things that build up, teach with excitement the hope being built up within us, only the good, things that point to Yeshua! In His Word, and in the things He uses everyday to us where we are. Those things are hard to dispute, and harder still to argue. Sure there are those who call black/white and up/down. Let it go…silently…pray…and know that Adonai will be speaking to them. May His grace captivate all!

Colossians 4:5-6
Behave wisely towards outsiders, making full use of every opportunity – let your conversation always be gracious and interesting, so that you will know how to respond to any particular individual.

Romans 15:1-6
So we who are strong have a duty to bear the weaknesses of those who are not strong, rather than please ourselves. Each of us should please his neighbor and act for his good, thus building him up. For even the Messiah did not please Himself; rather as the Word says, ‘The insults of those insulting You fell on Me.’ (Ps. 69:9) For everything written in the past was written to teach us, so that with the encouragement of the Word we might patiently hold on to our hope. And may God, the source of encouragement and patience, give you the same attitude among yourselves as the Messiah Yeshua had, so that with one accord and with one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah.

Ecclesiastes 10:12
The words spoken by the wise bring them favor, but the lips of a fool swallow them up.

Ecclesiastes 9:17
A wise man speaking quietly is more worth heeding than the shout of a ruler commanding fools.

Proverbs 17:9
He who conceals an offense promotes love, but he who harps on it can separate even close friends.

Proverbs 17:28
Even a fool, if he stays silent, is thought wise; he who keeps his mouth shut can pass for smart.

Proverbs 15:23
People take pleasure in anything they say; but a word at the right time, how good it is!

Proverbs 13:3
He who guards his mouth preserves his life, but one who talks too much comes to ruin.

Luke 6:43-45
For no good tree produces bad fruit, nor does a bad tree produce good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit – figs aren’t picked from thorn bushes, nor grapes from a briar patch. The good person produces good things from the store of good in his heart, while the evil person produces evil things from the store of evil in his heart. For his mouth speaks what overflows from his heart.

Grace and peace in Yeshua the Messiah ❤
