Matthew 6:9-13 ~ Yeshua (Jesus) speaking…

You, therefore, pray like this:

‘Our Father in heaven!
May Your Name be kept holy.
May Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us the food we need today.
Forgive us what we have done wrong, as we too have forgiven those who have wronged us.
And do not lead us into hard testing, but keep us safe from the evil one.
For Kingship, power and glory are Yours forever.

In Yeshua’s own life here on earth…

Matthew 4:1-4

Then the Spirit led Yeshua up into the wilderness to be tested by the Adversary. After Yeshua had fasted forty days and nights, He was hungry. The tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, order these stones to become bread.” But He answered, “The Tanakh (scriptures/Word of God) says, ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of Adonai.’

From His disciple, Peter’s own life.

John 21:16-17

A second time He said to him, “Shim’on Bar Yochanan (Simon son of John – Peter), do you love Me?” He replied, “Yes, Lord You know I’m Your friend.” He said to him, “Shepherd My sheep.” The third time He said to him, “Shim’on Bar-Yochanan, are you My friend?” Shim’on was hurt that He questioned him a third time: “Are you My friend?” So he replied, “Lord, You know everything! You know I’m Your friend!” Yeshua said to him, “Feed My sheep!”

In order to fully understand Brother Peter’s interaction here we must note three things:

1) Most know Peter had denied Yeshua three times only days ago when this conversation took place. The significance of Yeshua having him say three times, essentially, “I will not deny You again.” was profound!

2) The real power comes from knowing the prophetically fulfilling moment this exchange signifies! Again, everything Yeshua did and said is full of purpose and provision!

Ezekiel 34, this entire chapter is needful to read, and is lengthy so I will not type it all here. This is where the confirmation of another of the Father’s promises is fulfilled and kept. Note the language…sheep, food, feed. Its all imagery…but easy enough to see why He used the word-pictures He did. And hence why Yeshua used the same with Peter. My guess is that Peter’s hair stood on end when the full implications of that exchange fell like dust settling after a storm! Mine does 🙂

3) Peter didn’t start a “soup kitchen”…but a Continued Kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven!

So is the food in verse 11, physical or spiritual? Well, to be sure it can apply to both. We can count on Adonai to provide for the physical body, as the rest of Matthew chapter 6 goes on in vivid detail. Yet taken as a whole, this prayer is about the Life that lives on into eternity, the life that matters and therefore, the Life that needs substance at the hand of God. Yeshua (and many many others) have gone without physical food on a daily basis. Its not necessary to feed the stomach everyday…not to live. But, there is a food we can not live without from one day to the next.

Matthew 6:25 ~ Yeshua speaking…

“Therefore, I tell you, don’t worry about your life – what you will eat or drink; or about your body – what you will wear. Isn’t life about more than food and the body more than clothing?

John 4:31-34

Meanwhile, the talmidim (disciples/followers) were urging Yeshua, “Rabbi, eat something.” But He answered, “I have food to eat that you don’t know about.” At this, the talmidim asked one another, “Could someone have brought Him food?” Yeshua said to them, “My food is to do what the One who sent Me wants and to bring His work to completion.”

John 6:27; 32; 35 ~ Yeshua speaking…

Don’t work for the food which passes away but for the food that stays on into eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For this is the One on whom God the Father has put His seal.

Yeshua said to them, “Yes, indeed! I tell you it wasn’t Moshe (Moses) who gave you the bread from heaven. But My Father is giving you the genuine bread from heaven; for God’s bread is the One who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.”

Yeshua answered, “I am the bread which is life! Whoever comes to Me will never go hungry, and whoever trusts in Me will never be thirsty.”
*** all of John chapter 6 is about the food in the Lords prayer.

Look at all the language used in these passages!! It is the Lord’s Prayer on steroids! Detailed! the Father; Kingdom/heaven; bread/food!! Every word that proceeds from His mouth is the food we need today!

If you ask for anything and it is within the Father’s will…it shall be given to you“…

And sure enough…Yeshua’s Words are a ready meal for the eating…requiring not a cent to be spent! Like the loaves and fish…multiplying over and over to the point where none can consume them all! Feeding His sheep! Shepherd of Israel, Word of God, Bread of Life…food we need today.

Grace and peace in Yeshua the Messiah ❤
