Never Ashamed (Spurgeon’s Faith’s Checkbook)

Never Ashamed
October 14

Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 10:32)

Gracious promise! It is a great joy to me to confess my Lord. Whatever my faults may be, I am not ashamed of Jesus, nor do I fear to declare the doctrines of His cross. O Lord, I have not hid Thy righteousness within my heart.
Sweet is the prospect which the text sets before me! Friends forsake and enemies exult, but the Lord does not disown His servant. Doubtless my Lord will own me even here and give me new tokens of His favorable regard. But there comes a day when I must stand before the great Father. What bliss to think that Jesus will confess me then! He will say, “This man truly trusted Me and was willing to be reproached for My name’s sake; and therefore I acknowledge him as Mine.” The other day a great man was made a knight, and the Queen handed him a jeweled garter; but what of that? It will be an honor beyond all honors for the Lord Jesus to confess us in the presence of the divine Majesty in the heavens. Never let me be ashamed to own my Lord. Never let me indulge a cowardly silence or allow a fainthearted compromise. Shall I blush to own Him who promises to own me?

Thoughts to Ponder ~ 12

October 11, 2013 at 12:40 am (Thoughts to Ponder)

Let us hang upon the lips of all the faithful (trusting ones), for the Spirit of God is upon every one of them. ~ Paulinus of Nola

Psalms 22:3-5
Nevertheless, You are Holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.
In You our ancestors put their trust; they trusted, and You rescued them.
They cried out to You and escaped; they trusted in You and were not dissapointed.

This is the Creator: in respect of His love, our Father; in respect of His power, our Lord; in respect of His wisdom, our Maker and Designer.  ~ Irenaeus

John 1:1-3
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things came to be through Him, and without Him nothing made had being.

Pay attention to the reading of the words of Scripture, in order to learn from them how to be with God.  ~ John of Apamea

If a man wants God to hear his prayer quickly, then before he prays for anything else, even his own soul, when he stands and stretches out his hands towards God, he must pray with all his heart for his enemies. Through this action God will hear everything he asks. ~ Zeno

Luke 23:34
Yeshua (Jesus) said, “Father, forgive them; they don’t understand what they are doing.”

Human beings know what is behind them, but in front of them is infinity. And for those who seek the Lord, evening and morning is more than enough. Their road goes a long way, but it is close at hand as they travel along it. ~ Babai

Speech is the organ of this present world. Silence is the mystery of the world to come. ~ Isaak the Syrian

You should not listen to those who keep saying that the voice of the people is the voice of God, since a riotous crowd is always next door to madness. ~ Alcuin

Reason in man is rather like God in the world. ~ Thomas Aquinas

You (O Lord), are a fire that takes away the coldness, enlightens the mind with its light, and causes me to know Your Truth. And I know You are Beauty and Truth itself, and Wisdom itself. ~ Catherine of Siena

Abba, Trusting you is the art of living. Make each day a note of Life’s song as You play them. Each sunrise and sunset a brush of Your penmanship on my heart. Each breath from this temporary body – a breath of Life towards Your body – full of all Your children – donated without need for remembering how You cast the net! ~ LRV

Love on the Inside

October 7, 2013 at 1:03 pm (Remodeling the Mind)

1 Corinthians 2:16

For who has known the mind of Adonai (the Lord God)?
Who will counsel Him? (Is. 40:13)

But we have the mind of the Messiah!

I wonder how we can possibly know how powerful this revelation by Paul is. We have the mind of Yeshua (Jesus) our Deliverer!! The Son of God…God in Human flesh?!?

Can you say it to yourself?

“I, trusting that Yeshua is, because He is, have His mind.”

I spend 10 minutes using “my” thinker and have to do one of two things. Either I see my thoughts and doubt those words written by Paul, who was told by the Spirit and wrote a letter to a body of believers in Corinth. Or I take this thought written down for me, and believe it even though my own mind gives evidence to the contrary. Is this not the trust Adonai has been teaching since the Beginning. Its possible to feel no love, and still love by the actions that love dictates. A rejection from someone loved, cloaked in the words “I love you”, what does one do in such a “double-minded” scenario? Do you say, with your mouth using the brain that see’s duplicity in this statement…pointing out where light and dark exist in the soul? Or do you simply “say” to your mind “I will just love this beloved and wait on God to do what He does best…separate light from darkness”. The truth is…it depends on what He tells you to do, in that moment. Either could be His will. He instructs us to speak the truth…exhort and instruct. He also says, “Be still, and know I Am God.” “Let Me be the “Instructor”, you just choose to continue loving them.” And how does one do this continuing to love…from a distance? We forgive, letting them “off the hook” for hurt done to us…we give it up to Abba…let go. Then we do nothing outside the lines of love…inside, allowing no thoughts of blame, anger, resentment to have access to our time…speaking only words in their regard that would encourage others to love and cherish them. Not allowing any words of events between you to enter another’s ear, even if they are “truthful”. Love protects…especially an enemies reputation over our own. Love puts everyone above the “I-ness” of me. Love let’s God take care of our hurts and reputations, and gives even when we can see we are being “taken”.

Pay attention to your thoughts when you are being hurt, misunderstood, slandered, unappreciated by someone; whether they are a “loved one” or outside that circle as a stranger. Now, we turn our minds towards Yeshua, what did He do in response to these things? If we are unsure, we go find out. Yet, if we have the Spirit all we need do is ask Him, “what would You have me do?” And obey. Then we know we have the mind of Messiah! How?

What did Yeshua do, but with every breath ask the Father what He wanted of Him, and obeyed. Never stopping to say…”but…” Just obeying, knowing that His human instincts would oppose the very thoughts His Father would speak.

My ways are not your ways, nor My thoughts your thoughts.”

The human concept of “right”, “fair”, and “justice” are the first things Adonai teaches us that blind us. Love is doing only what Love Himself tells you. This is the mind of Messiah we have been given! What power! To be able to think, behave, and act in every moment exactly as the God who created everything, can do anything, and loves us with a love that can’t be humanly perceived in any other way than to give it to another.

Oh, how incomprehensible to us Love is. We think its earned, a give and take, or a “right” by blood. We think its loyalty to the point of corruption if need be. We think its listening to slander and gossip and call it, “caring” and “listening” to another’s “hurts”. We think its advise giving, when a simple encouragement to tell another to ask the Perfect Advise Giver to speak to them is the BEST advise we will ever give. Sometimes we think the “truth” is the only component needed; and thereby speak it and walk away. Oh, how Adonai greives at not only what we turn love into but how we lead others to believe He is such love as we make.

Sarcasim as a means to cope with our judgement upon those around us. Cynisism to masquerade our doubt in God’s ability to be Sovereign over all. Trust becomes a religious self whipping. A do-good list, instead of simply and truly trusting. And down we go into all manner of “anti-trusting” techniques. Slander, gossip, maligning, manipulation, envy, jealousy. When we fall into these categories we rarely are aware, justification and rationalization are the fast friends of human thinking. We become people who “do things” because of what other people have done to us, people who “do things” because circumstances have all the powers of persuasion upon our minds. Love becomes like the Sun, we can bask in its light and heat for comfort, but we can not look at it without going blind. We say its Sunny, only when there are few or no clouds in the sky. We have no ability to say, “its Sunny” even though clouds blanket our view of it. It depends totally on us, what we see, what we think. The truth: Love is never what we think.

May the mind of Messiah be everything to us! May we become “mindless” to our own, and may the Spirit BLAZE such Love into our beings! For we have the mind of Messiah!!

A Covenant He Remembers (Spurgeon’s Faith’s Checkbook)

October 1, 2013 at 3:12 am (Devotionals)

A Covenant He Remembers
October 1

He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant. (Psalm 111:5)

Those who fear God need not fear want. Through all these long years the Lord has always found meat for His own children, whether they have been in the wilderness, or by the brook Cherith, or in captivity, or in the midst of famine. Hitherto the Lord has given us day by day our daily bread, and we doubt not that He will continue to feed us till we want no more.

As to the higher and greater blessings of the covenant of grace, He will never cease to supply them as our case demands. He is mindful that He made the covenant and never acts as if He regretted it. He is mindful of it when we provoke Him to destroy us. He is mindful to love us, keep us, and comfort us, even as He engaged to do. He is mindful of every jot and tittle of His engagements, never suffering one of His words to fall to the ground.

We are sadly unmindful of our God, but He is graciously mindful of us. He cannot forget His Son who is the surety of the covenant, nor His Holy Spirit who actively carries out the covenant, nor His own honor, which is bound up with the covenant. Hence the foundation of God standeth sure, and no believer shall lose his divine inheritance, which is his by a covenant of salt.
