Following Yeshua (Jesus) ~ Part 1 ~ A Voice or a Script?

How Did Yeshua Think? ~ Part 6

The two links above are Part 1 of this series and yesterdays How did Yeshua Think? Part 6, as they all flow together.

We are searching for the Truth, starting by asking the Spirit to lead us. The question?
Did Yeshua simply follow a script given prior to His entry to earth? Or..
Did Yeshua follow a prescribed path, as we are asked to, which is illuminated by the Voice of the Father as each moment unfolds?

Luke 2:43-50

But after the festival was over, when His parents returned, Yeshua remained in Yerushalayim (Jerusalem). They didn’t realize this; supposing that He was somewhere in the caravan, they spent a whole day on the road before they began searching for Him among their relatives and friends. Failing to find Him, they returned to Yerushalayim to look for Him. On the third day they found Him – He was sitting in the Temple court among the rabbis, not only listening to them but questioning what they said; and everyone who heard Him was astonished at His Insight and His responses. When His parents saw Him, they were shocked; and His mother said to Him, “Son! Why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been terribly worried looking for you!” He said to them, “Why did you have to look for Me? Didn’t you know that I had to be concerning Myself with My Father’s affairs?” But they didn’t understand what He meant.

This passage is abundant with evidence of the Voice led perspective I submit to. How could Yeshua, who we know sinned not; and disobedience to his parents would have been sin; how could He have known to stay in Jerusalem? Yes, it could be said it was given Him as instruction prior to His coming here, but alas we read that we have not been given a Savior who can’t identify in every way with our human experiences. (Hebrews 2:17-18; 4:15) I can think of no one who has ever shared that they “felt programmed” from the time they were born in such a way. It is indeed because we are not, and neither was/is Yeshua (Jesus). This passage shows that Yeshua listened to His Father and as we are instructed, followed His lead even over those of human elders and social proprieties. Not only in staying on in Jerusalem but in everything He said and did while He was there! But here’s another to point to this Truth.

John 8:54 ~ Yeshua speaking…

Yeshua answered, “If I praise Myself, My praise counts for nothing. The One who is praising Me is My Father, the very One about whom you keep saying, ‘ He is our God.’

Question: how could He know God the Father is praising Him unless He heard Him?

John 4:34 ~ Yeshua speaking…

Yeshua said to them, “My food is to do what the One who sent Me wants and to bring His work to completion.

John 5:17; 19-20; 30
~ Yeshua speaking…

But He answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I, too, am working.”

Therefore, Yeshua said this to them: “Yes, indeed! I tell you that the Son cannot do anything on His own, but only what He sees the Father doing; whatever the Father does, the Son does too. For the Father loves the Son and shows Him everything He does; and He will show Him even greater things than these, so that you will be amazed.

I can’t do a thing on My own. As I hear, I judge; and My judgement is right; because I don’t seek My own desire, but the desire of the One who sent Me.

John 6:38; 45
~ Yeshua speaking…

For I have come down from heaven to do not My own will but the will of the One who sent Me.

It is written in the Prophets, “They will all be taught by Adonai.” Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from Him comes to Me.

John 7:15-16 ~ Yeshua speaking..

The Judeans were surprised: “How does this man know so much without having studied?” they asked. So Yeshua gave them an answer: “My teaching is not My own, it comes from the One who sent Me.

John 8:26-29; 38; 47
~ Yeshua speaking…

There are many things I could say about you and many judgements I could make. However, the One who sent Me is true; so I say in the world only what I have heard from Him.” They did not understand that He was talking to them about the Father. So Yeshua said, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I AM who I say I Am, and that of Myself I do nothing, but say only what the Father has taught Me. Also, the One who sent Me is still with Me; He did not leave Me to Myself, because I always do what pleases Him.

I say what My Father has shown Me; you do what your father has told you!”

Whoever listens to God listens to what God says; the reason you don’t listen is that you don’t belong to God.”

Another note: in the above scripture we see how Yeshua plainly says He had His own will and many perspectives He could share, but He chose only to act on and speak the perspectives the Father was giving Him.

John 10:27 ~ Yeshua speaking…

My sheep listen to My Voice, I recognize them, they follow Me.

John 12:48-50 ~ Yeshua speaking

Those who reject Me and don’t accept what I say have a judge – the Word which I have spoken will judge them on the Last Day. For I have not spoken on My own initiative, but the Father who sent Me has given Me a command, namely, what to say and how to say it. And I know His Command is eternal Life. So what I say is simply what the Father has told Me to say.”

John 14:10; 21; 23-24; 31
~ Yeshua speaking…

Don’t you believe that I am united with the Father, and the Father united with Me? What I am telling you, I am not saying on My own initiative; the Father living in Me is doing His own works.

Whoever has My commands and keeps them is the one who loves Me, and the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.

Yeshua answered him, “If someone loves Me, he will keep My Word; and My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make Our Home with him. Someone who doesn’t love Me doesn’t keep My Words – and the Word you are hearing is not My own but that of the Father who sent Me.

Rather, this is happening so that the world may know that I love the Father, and that I do as the Father has commanded Me.”

Its important to note here that the word translated as command here is instructions in Hebrew, and this is the language Yeshua is speaking here…not Greek.

John 16:12-14 ~ Yeshua speaking

I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t bear them now. However, when the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all the Truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative but will say only what He hears. He will also announce to you events of the future. He will glorify Me, because He will receive from what is Mine and announce it to you.

Matthew 7:21 ~ Yeshua speaking

Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, only those who do what My Father in heaven wants.

John 7:46

The guards replied, “No one ever spoke the way this man speaks!”

The entire Gospel of John is what I call the “details of the Way”. It is so full of the more detailed language Yeshua spoke in how to follow Him in action.
Yeshua spoke a set of words…

“He who has ears, let him hear!” (Matt. 13:9)

He said it 15 times including the variations of it in Revelations. This is one of the most repeated phrases He used. It gives us a clue as to how we “get ears to hear”. Wanna know how? Stay tuned for Part 3 🙂

May the Creator of ears, eyes and hearts continue to open ours, ushering us into the Kingdom that resounds with the Voice that speaks/spoke all things into being!
