Morning Refrain

February 28, 2014 at 9:35 am (Devotionals, Poems) (, , , , , )

In the morning

All is a’glissening and a glitter

Your world blanketed in tears

From grieving the loss of the Sun

Yet weeping for the beauty of the Moon and stars

Now branches reach up their liquid lined arms

To touch them as the Sun eclipses their shapes

Arms open to receive what hours ago was grieved

Having been opened again by a less lighted beauty

Though no less its beauty those stars

With the moon as a song to sing

Gentle melody of reminders that even the darkness reflects Your strength a’shinin

Sleepy eyes sojourn to find what their lids have shut out with the obedience to Your command for rest

Little birds sang at my window the song of morning newness

Arousing me out of dreamy chants

Their throats full of tweety worship

Crying out Your engraved romance

New day gladness shouts hope through their wings

Inducing springs and skips in squirrel jaunts like kings

The sky is full of fresh new air

Having been cooled and weighed down with the burdens of yesterday

Now with the Suns rescue – light and free – flowing it forgets its old burdens

Offering that forgetfulness to any who breathe deep it’s offering

Waiting for the life it feeds to slow down and see its meaning

Blue to the naked eye but dressed in rainbows to those who clothe them in You

The morning is full

The Sun proves Your faithfulness

The birds fly on wings of full feathered hope

The trees shed tears reflecting the duel nature of time

And the quick witted emotion You have lined all things with

Sadness and joy are the left and right hands of the same body

At the center beats the heart of El’Elyon

The Word that awakens!

I come bent in absolute worship
Bowed face to the dust I am made of
All else that is of me bent to You who made me
And everything this soul had ever seen, touched, smelt, or known
Can I bend down lower?
Oh Father is there any part of me that won’t submit?
Root it out! Those weeds that defy You.
Shrink the tumors of self guidance
Radiate the cancer of self agrandousment
Creat in me a completely new heart
One that I’ve never known before
Like a child in awe of You for the first time.
Oh to be released from the bondage of all knowing that isn’t You.
To be completely taken up in the Wonder of Wonderful
To be inside the intimacy of Counselor
To forsake everything but Mighty God!
Oh how I bend in relinquishment, abandon, and humility.

Doubts chase me relentlessly
Hounds that circle the You in Me
Sinister questions that twist and distort
Surround sound arrows that point in both directions
In and out
Shading and shadowing every solid thing

But You are the Son shining bright in this shell
Remind me that it starts from the inside out
I can only follow the path of Your shining
The shadows tell the story of You too.
The insane sounds to my reasoning are proof that Your ways are not mine
Nor can they be found by touching and grasping at all that Your Light shines on. You spoke; and there was Light
What more need I know to trust?
Perhaps You know now and the answer awaits eternal
A perception too big for such a temporal frame.
Or perhaps it’s in the new morn dawning.
Just beyond the dimmed view
So then You say
“Just keep on seeking… the morning My Child, is where all things are new. ”
So here I am Bright Morning Star a’shinin’
Bowed and bent within this frame
All I have to offer is this giving
Giving up my own domain
My rights to own the slightest twinkle
The sparks they fly from the fire of Your Son
They move along the breeze of Your speaking
And find their purpose in what He’s done
No matter what I believe He’s still doing
The things You’ve planned where victory’s won.
I trust my all to Your simple leading
And give all the glory to Your Son.

Grieving towards Grace

February 19, 2014 at 1:42 am (Poems, Prayers) (, , , , , )

This is a prayer/poem that comes from so much of the tyranny that losses can “feel” like but often the words just won’t come. There are those who are laid open with the wound of loss…This is for you.

Learning every day how You pull me through the grieving
Of the saying goodbyes and question of why’s
I want to stand up now
And live out loud
Your how

Greaseless joints move through this moment
Uncertain from one moment to the next
Gridlocked and cornered by misconceptions
You reach through and rescue
Impossible – Your motion
I watch quite outside myself
This shell rejects the notion
That something more waits on the horizon

I hear You speak of future glimpses
Set aside and tailor made
Full of the unlikely candidates of smile-like shapes upon my lips again
Empty hands argue with those words
I’m as empty as these hands seem now
The scales all favor Your how

Incredulous and impossible
Next to nothing my thoughts are full
Of questions and constant looks into the past
Involuntary muscles break me fast
Against Your waves
High tide has reckoned with my strength – making graves
Buried and gone are dreams awakened
By the rush of You
By the constant stream
Steady and sure
You flow right through me
Threatening not to undo me
Watching these pieces flow into places
I never gave a chance to have faces
Hell seems a beautiful thing to the undone
Fractures surface on its foundations
Smoothing out the existence of Your Son
Inside of me
Your how

Every answer seems offensive
Every smile shakes my core
Happiness is for the full
Empty arms ask for more

I will await Your chosen moment
And wade through these questions of why
Abide in the presence of Your holy Anchor
Trust doesn’t need why
It only needs now
In the face of all that’s debatable
Scrutiny becomes an enemy with the face of a friend
Its constant drip of voices shout
Yet You invite them in to tune, refine and shake loose
Dreams born in the hidden whispers of doubt
These too bow to You
I don’t know why
But I know they take on clarity
In Your how

Show me now
In these stretched out seemingly eternal seconds
Ticking against the white washed borders of my mind
Show me in the reflections of shadow and doubt
Your how

Tears are the drops of clear blood that that clear your vision

So that what you see after they flow is not what’s “leftover”

But what remains for us to see is all that really mattered in the first place

Usually Love.

They are the strain removers of fear

And the eliminators of the odors of expectations

The fuel by which they often flow is the fire that kills one thing for another truer thing to grow

They tap into an unseen or forgotten world and remove the fog of apathy

Tears are made up in the molecules of light

Light shining in the darkness

Blowing in the winds of change

Tears are the hope of the heart; flowing onto the face of purpose; anointing the cheeks with colors that only light and liquid can reveal as rainbows

Tears are a sign of promise.

Falling as they may – they promise to lift up

Never falling to fade away but collected to prove themselves one day
