I love squirrel watching in the morning. (I always have nuts handy to feed)

I guess you could say I like to nature watch, really. To go outside first thing and connect with the only thing living that answers to exactly what God either designed it to do by instinct or answers to His heed with undelayed obedience. The sky, wind, clouds. Teaching my eyes to see what waiting without complaint looks like. The trees, shrubs, and grasses that wait for water. Or for the drying of the Sun. The ground that knows it’s useful without any evidence necessary…waiting for the show of its slow and unappreciated nurture. The birds and squirrels play then eat then forage then fight then play then rest then eat. .. repeat. It’s their work. Living. Just living. Yet all unique and with personalities intricate and unashamed. The creatures of the morning don’t compare themselves to each other. I’ve often been tempted to think they know a thing or two about jealousy. Fighting over who sits by the pile of nuts and who has to dash in and evade the “pile master”. To us its cute to assign human characteristics to animals. Disney would be out of business if people didn’t have a driving need to understand things only as we understand them. But if you look. .. and listen to their Creator tell you about them; you see its a grave identity error.

I come away with a heavy heart at times at how we as humans don’t think we can “relate” without making everything like us. It limits the souls ability to really know what relating is. It’s why all the “match-making” companies have succeeded. Note: I said the companies succeed NOT the matches! Some do, but not because of the company (or method) they used to come together. We are bent to find common ground. Deluded by the concept that simular thinking guarantees longevity. Perhaps in nature but not in human relationships. (Iron sharpens iron…so one person sharpens another)  One operates without choice by the program that has been assigned to it. We do not. Everyday, every hour of every minute we have the ability to decide our programming is wrong and invent a new one. Or rather our Programmer is wrong. Most walk through life never having the slightest desire to know the Who behind our existence. And hence the who we are. The earth and it’s creatures of instinct don’t have a choice. We do. It’s a gift and a curse.

So I wake up and introduce my senses and mind to the world devoid of human likeness to set the pace for the day. To remember that when I encounter another person to really look at them as if I’ve never seen “a them” before. Tuning my ears to listen to the Who who made them. Just like with the squirrels and birds and earth and sky. Learning not to place my likeness on anything but to train my mind to go immediately to the true Likeness by which they were made for the what, how, why, where and when of each thing I encounter in each moment as it comes. The squirrels are master’s at living in the moment. All creatures of instinct are. I envy them this ability.
They are never counting down minutes to a future moment. Biding their time. They are never “clocked in” and waiting to “clock out”. They just LIVE each minute without any concept of the next or their last. What freedom!

My human perspective runs to Abba and asks Him. ..
“How can I do this Lord? The whole world exist to beat the Clock, get off work, wish for more time, look forward to an event, a vacation, a time outside the moment we are in. It seems almost impossible for human beings to only take each minute into consideration like these creatures do.”

His answer?
“Nothing is impossible with Me! The key to staying in the moment isn’t in focusing on staying in the moment. It’s in staying with Me.”

Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness…and all these things shall be added unto you.

My response?
“Teach me!”

And He is. You’ll not find a class or seminar or school or program that can teach this anywhere in the human kingdom. It’s only at His feet, like Mary, forsaking time and human custom to learn how to LIVE!
