Gravitational Gratitude

Psalms 16:7-11

I bless Adonai, my Counselor; at night my inmost being instructs me. I always set Adonai before me; with Him at my right hand, I can never be moved; so my heart is glad, my glory rejoices, and my body too rests in safety; for You will not abandon me to Sh’ol (hell), You will not let Your faithful one see the Abyss. You make me know the path of Life; in Your presence is unbounded joy, in Your right hand eternal delight.

Gratitude gives us strength because it focuses us. Like a gravitational pull in reverse; it pulls us up into the very Heart of Joy; the Designer of Delight – the Father – God.

Dancers need to have a strong sense of gravity for their creativity to become an abandon of poetry. On one hand they need to know it in order to know the limits to which their bodies must and will comply; on the other, there is a Presence that can give “lessons” that cannot be taught by any other on how to stretch the limits of what they already “know” aka with head knowledge about the “rules of gravity”.

The saddest thing in the world is the misconception of God as a “rule monger”. Oh, He sets limits indeed for billions of things; the cellular wall, the waves in the ocean, the bendability of bones etc…but in Him and through Him there are limitless possibilities. Does not the resurrection of Yeshua (Jesus), Lazarus, the widows son, the “deathless” taking of Elijah prove this?

The limits are set upon mankind to do anything without Him! This may seem “selfish” on God’s part but let’s be real, we never do any good without Him. Hence should He give us the limitless degree of give and take; the ends of evil we could do would put the evil we’ve all seen mankind do to shame.

Yeshua was focused on His Father, hence He was free, limitless, in this world with daring and delight! All the while those who were limited (without Him) were sucked into the limit ridden void of their security and issues of image management that kept true focus of gratitude from dawning in their hearts that were created to delight. The essential design of gratitude is to focus us on the Center of all things which makes us glad.

This is the language we see written and threaded throughout King David Psalms. Notice how the focal point of his praise draws him? Making him know the Path of Life, being instructed even in his sleep to the purpose of eternal security – “never being moved”. Yet we hear of the limitless mobility given to him in the presence of God with words like “boundless joy” and “eternal delight” a delight that shall never end.

Is it any wonder why the enemy works so hard to convince us that giving thanks in all things is hard work? It’s the freest and most impulsive thing we can do when we “set Adonai before us always”.

Therein lies the key. We do the least amount of gratitude living because it is usually ourselves or things other than Adonai we set consistently before us. Shall we defy gravity and praise Him? Shall we see the limitless beauty Yeshua and the Father with the delightful play of the Spirit can teach us? Let us this day continually set Adonai before us and give thanks for all things; what feels good and what does not, what we think we understand, and what we can’t wrap our brains around – He can!

A true sense of focus, I believe, would be among the top 3 things any man or woman would desire. Here is where it is found: Gravitational Gratitude engraved by the Grace of God; given out in limitless degree every hour of every day. It’s there for the taking and making and shaping of our lives, we need only choose it. Freedom of choice is the cry of humanity, this choice brings true freedom; it was created specifically for humanity by God. He holds out with unlimited degree His grace and mercy so that we may hold onto Him and have the “ride of our lives” – shall we take it? .
