What did Yeshua Think? ~ Part 2

June 5, 2013 at 2:32 am (Remodeling the Mind) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

This prayer/phrase was integrated into every single thing Yeshua (Jesus) did, the Hebrews did. Hear O Israel the Lord our God is One God starts every prayer and blessing in this culture. Therefore we can know that Yeshua grew up with these words coming before and after virtually every action He took every day. Knowing it’s meaning…the function and purpose of it, when we know our Savior spoke these words almost as first words…is powerful.

The following is taken from The Living Words – Volume 1 – Pages 135-137 by Jeff A. Benner. Everything in parenthesis ( ) is my addition.

Could you imagine watching the news one evening and the news anchor states, “A major earthquake hits, causing extensive damage and loss of life,” then moves onto the next story. No video, no details, no location, nothing. Well, this is exactly what translating one Hebrew word for one English word is like, as each Hebrew word is rich with meaning that cannot be expressed with only one English word.

We will be examining several verses of scripture, word by word, looking for the deeper meaning behind the Hebrew that has been lost in our English translations.

Hear O Israel

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one LORD: And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.
~ Deuteronomy 6:4,5 (RSV)

Hear: sham a – This word means “to hear” but with the Hebraic idea “to pay attention to what is being spoken and act upon it“. When Israel “hears” the directions of God, they agree to act upon them they obey His Words. When God “hears” the pleas of Israel in bondage in Egypt, He acts upon them He rescues Israel.

(John 5:25 ~ Yeshua (Jesus) speaking…

Yes, indeed I tell you that there is coming a time – in fact, its already here – when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who listen will come to life.)

LORD: Yahweh – The name meaning “He exist”.

God: Elohiym -While this word is often translated as “God”, we must recognize that the idea behind a “god”, any “god” is a Greek concept. The Hebrew word means “judges” in the sense of One with great power and authority.

One: ehhad – The use of the word “one” in this verse is commonly interpreted to mean that there is only “one” God. However, from a Hebraic perspective, this verse is stating that Yahweh is in unity with Himself. A good example of this is the pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. A cloud and fire are opposites – one provides coolness and shade; the other heat and light. Yet they work together to preserve the people during the day and the night.

(John 10:37-38 ~ Yeshua speaking…

“If I am not doing deeds that refect My Father’s power, don’t trust Me. But if I am, then, even if you don’t trust Me, trust the deeds; so that you may understand once and for all that the Father is united with Me, and I am united with the Father.”)

Love: ahav – Love is not an emotion: it is an action. The context of this word in the text indicates that we are to “love” God with our actions, not with our emotions. (Because our emotions are always changing based on circumstances, hormones, and reactions. They can be used by the enemy to move away from God)

( John 17:26 ~ Yeshua praying for us…

I made Your Name known to them, and I will continue to make it known; so that the love with which You have loved Me may be in them, and I, Myself may be united with them. )

Heart: levav – The heart in Hebrew thought is the thoughts of the mind, not an emotion as we would relate to the word heart. In this passage, we are informed how to “love” Yahweh – by keeping all our thoughts focused on Him.

( Matthew 15:18-20 ~ Yeshua speaking…

But what comes out of your mouth is actually from your heart, and that is what makes a person unclean. For out of the heart come forth wicked thoughts, murder, adultery, and other kinds of sexual immorality, theft, lies, slanders…These are what really make a person unclean… )
(notice the wicked thoughts are mentioned first, then action, action, action. The concept of this prayer/command is neon in Hebraic perspective. Sow a thought…reap an action)

Soul: nephesh – Literally the whole of the person. First we are told to love Yahweh with our minds, now with all of our bodies, our wholeness.

Might: me’od – This is a very interesting word, especially in the way that it is used in this context. This word is used throughout Hebrew as an adverb, intensifying a verb, and is usually translated as very, greatly, or much. This is the only time this word appears as a noun and is best translated as “muchness”. This idea of muchness is expanding on the previous two ways we are to love Yahweh, first with our mind, then with our body, and now with everything we have. (All at our disposal, resources)

( Matthew 13:44-45 ~ Yeshua speaking…

The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. A man found it, hid it again, then in great joy went and sold everything he owned, and bought that field.
Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for fine pearls. On finding one very valuable pearl he went away, sold everything he owned and bought it.”

Now that we have examined each word in this passage, to uncover their original meanings in the Hebrew culture, let’s translate it with a more Hebraic flavor. ( The way Yeshua thought and understood it )

Israel, pay careful attention and respond: Yahweh is our power and authority, Yahweh works in unity with Himself: and you shall act upon your love to Yahweh your power and authority with your thoughts and mind, with your entire body and with all the muchness that you have.

It becomes increasingly clear that Yeshua thought and processed like a Hebrew. He knew these concepts and perspectives from His growth in the culture of God, the Father’s making…Hebrew/Jew. Every word He spoke is inundated with Hebraic thought. Which tells us that the richness and depth of God’s communication is profound this way.

So far in this series we have seen the value of looking “through His eyes” at the Words He spoke. We find confirmation after confirmation of His culture. That it makes a difference to understand it. It can be understood via the Greek/western mindset; but one gives a side salad if you will, which feeds but this way we get ” the full meal deal”. 🙂

Everything Means Something

May 31, 2013 at 1:48 am (Remodeling the Mind) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

In the Beginning…
Adonai Elohim was.
His was, is, and ever shall be…always.
Everything that has/had a beginning began in Him.
Nothing…nothing that ever has been, will be and is now is outside His constructive brilliant presence.

Adam from beginning to his last earthbound breath…still lives

Because of Yeshua (Jesus).
Beginning and End, 1st and Last, Alpha and Omega and Aleph to Tav.

The strings of meaning dangle and sing; hanging from every word; dipped in the purest of gold from Genesis to…who can know but Him who has, is, was and always shall be the last Word. The Living Word sings as rocks can not – this song.

In 1824, George MacDonald came forth from a womb. Years and years before many came before…all meant to bring him. A Scottish warrior, who bent against the religion of his times; and walked up to the Throne and said,

“If there is a God, let Him…Himself tell me about Himself. For the God being preached and taught by man shares no resemblance to this Yeshua (Jesus), I read of. He is Love incarnate and a Fire of Truth to be lived. I must know Him.”

A boy, seemingly insignificant…sat at Yeshua’s feet and took notes, and lived what Adonai wrote upon his heart.

1892…J.J.R. Tolkien emerged from a womb. Many lives before him came…so he could be.

Every breath George MacDonald took would engrave meaning upon Tolkeins mind and heart. George’s “work” in combination with Yeshua’s own special touch in J.J…brought us; A Hobbits Tale and Lord of the Rings. Theirs dripped down those skeins of time into C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia.

Swinging from one string to the next Adonai…working, shaping, and orchestrating each person listed on the credits to make those Epic movies (The Lord of the Ring – LotR). Each person handcrafted specifically for those purposes. From Adam to Yeshua to George to Tolkien to Andrew Jackson (producer of LotR).

Do you see the meaning? Every Sunset took part, every rising of the Sun, every heart ache, every joy unabated. Every person who touched them…touch us too. Everything means something! And it all leads to Yeshua. The God of all Creation and Possibilities! The Master of Ceremonies in this Life. The Executive Producer of everyone’s – every minute. Never ever entertain such thoughts of insignificance O Child of Elohim!!
Let the dead bury the dead…but remember if anything had light in it, anything or anyone crashed a wave of Truth on your shores…its still ALIVE!

Many of those who touched the Lives of any listed above served eternal purposes! Even the chimney sweeper! Indeed the refuse worker too! Some contributed to their minds, some hearts, some the body, some for good, some for ill, some for sharing intimately, some for brushing briefly, some to write upon their hearts, some they wrote upon. Yet all -all were written by the Right Hand of a Mighty God!

Look not just to those who share your everyday experiences; but look at your grocery store worker with new eyes! The Waste-worker you never see means something along your skein of time. If there is someone who never fails to place your hand in Yeshua’s, hold them in the highest as a treasure from Heaven. If it be an author long gone to His side…repeat their words. If someone present in your today, thank Yeshua for His showing up physical again with abounding grace! The very leaves that crackle as they tread within your hearing, the birds you never stop to listen to, the countless puffy white clouds that script write His love on the sky that produces air for your lungs. LOOK!! Look at it all my fellow sheep and knowEVERYTHING MEANS SOMETHING and it All points to Him. Ask Him to show you, and you will never see the world around you through your eyes again.

There is a tiny book, just before Revelations called Jude. Not very noted by most. One “chapter”, yet in actuality its a letter. One letter from Jude, named Y’hudah in his native tongue (Hebrew). Look who its to.

Jude 1:1-2

From Y’hudah, a slave of Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah and a brother of Ya’akov (Jacob).
To: those who have been called, who are loved by God the Father and kept for Yeshua the Messiah: May mercy, love and shalom (peace) be yours in full measure

Fast forward to the end…to one of the most amazing blessings to you and I

Jude 1:24-25

Now, to the One who can keep you from falling and set you without defect and full of joy in the presence of His Sh’khinah (Divine Presence, the manifest glory of God present with men)
to God alone, our Deliverer, through Yeshua the Messiah, our Lord – be glory, majesty, power and authority before all time, now and forever.

There is no such thing a small in the Kingdom of Heaven.

How Did Yeshua Think?? ~ Part 1

May 27, 2013 at 11:11 pm (The Shepherd's Words) (, , , , , , )

So, so many Scriptures become more alive and complete each other when understood from a Hebraic perspective. That is as Yeshua (Jesus) understood it. It also makes what He The Living Word said mean so much more, becoming fulfillment of every Word before 🙂

Below is an excerpt from The Living Words ~ Volume 1 by Jeff A. Benner. Page 137-139

The Aaronic Blessing

The LORD bless you and keep you. The LORD make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you: The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.
~ Numbers 6:24-26 (RSV)

Each of the Hebrew words behind the English in this passage is filled with images, lost when translated into the English language. When we examine each of these words from their original meaning, the message in the passage comes alive.

Bless: barak – This verb is written in piel form,  literally meaning “to kneel down and present a gift in respect to another.”

Keep: shamar – This verb comes from the corral of thorns erected by a shepherd while out at night with his flocks and it is best translated as “guarding” and “preserving”.

Face: panyim – The face reflects the many different moods, emotions, and thoughts of the person. This Hebrew word can mean the face but also the “presence” or the “wholeness of being” of an individual.

Shine: or – This verb means “to give light” or “to shine” and is equated with bringing about order as light illuminates or reveals what has been dark.

Gracious: hhanan – A momad’s camp consisted of many family tents, arranged in a circle, and was viewed as a place of beauty. Not just the appearance of beauty but the action, a place of warmth, love, friendship, community and sustenance. This verb is the expression of these concepts.

Countenance: paniym – This is the same Hebrew word as before meaning “face”.

Give: siym – This Hebrew verb means to “set down in place.”

Peace: shalom – This noun is derived from the verbal root shalam meaning to “restore” in the sense of replacing or providing what is needed in order to make someone or something whole and complete. The noun shalom is used for one who has, or has been provided, what is needed to be whole and complete.

With the Hebraic understanding of each of these Hebrew words, we can better understand the true meaning of the Aaronic Blessing as it was understood by the Ancient Hebrews.

Yahweh will kneel before you presenting gifts, and He will guard you with a hedge of protection, Yahweh will illuminate the wholeness of His being towards you, bringing order, and He will provide you with love, sustenance, and friendship, Yahweh will lift up the wholeness of His being and look upon you, and He will set in place all you need to be whole and complete.

I have often said to myself, that reading from this perspective is much like the Amplified Bible in its nature. God loves expression, He loves to express Himself! He has bent way down to make sure we can know His heart towards us! What a gift!
