The Burning of God

What nature of God should consume as fire a child He so beloves? What is this Holy fire that over-takes a bush, without destroying it and spreading is wrath with it’s surrounding neighbors? Is it possible that inside of me, lays a landscape of tree and brush that builds idols and calls my worship to the created itself; that must be such that the fires of jealousy begin to burn it from the One who made it and me? If so, how do I begin to walk into the flames of His desire to purify me? Ahhh, how we avoid pain! Forgetting so often that it lays within a corrupted and broken part, the relief we seek is not so much the healing of the wound as the ridding of the effect of it (pain). Cause and effect. What so causes us to ignore the greatest feature of our salvation (cleansing)? I love the thought that God sees me as I am complete, growing into this completeness or capable of such that He sees. Each stage of my growth a celestial celebration. Yet, how can I stop this urge to run from how I see myself as ineffective, delinquent in His eyes? I have days, that my feet have put on their running shoes as I move towards His presence, it seems, quite apart from my awareness. I look down and wonder, “how did that happen?”

This house-buying/moving process has been a lesson of burning away the destructible I knew not lay within me. As you know, as my absence of post may indicate, the recovery time from the burns is long. Though not without it unshakeable foundations laid upon the waste of smoldering ruins. Spring rains, and gentle breezes have produced new flowers that could not have grown without the fiery blazes He blew inside to wake me. Most days all I was able to do was will myself to lay still while the flames overtook me. The urge to run and escape, fight or flight, so cemented in my habits and reactions, almost too much to train. My willing heart, a thing only He can move, was His grace. I know something of Yeshua’s (Jesus’) fortitude to walk, though heavy with pain, towards the flame of the Cross. His voice ringing in my ears, “Do as I did, do.”

Before the house-hunting escapade, I thought I was ready to do away with possession and things. Indeed, I was more ready than before, as the desire was the flickering flame to begin the first fire of purity. All great things start small. Our Savior was a seed, embryo, fetus, babe; before He was a man. A mountain was a bubbling cauldron of lava before it became a breathtaking appendage of earth. There is a striking balance now seen, between really receiving the blessed things He gives us, without guilt or wondering if it’s right, and feeling deserving. ..wanting more. Another balance or clearing of perspective; that the wanting of more after a bestowing of blessing in things here on earth, turned inward to see the true desire is the wanting more of Him, not the things.

The startling thought, though still, is that nothing resulting in the process guarantees my fingers shall not hold tightly things again. It’s a controlled burn, all things God does inside, this side of eternity. I think perhaps this is what makes His ways so undesirous to people. We like a ‘start and finish’ kind of life. No dragging out of things. We weary easy of all things that go on for an extended amount of time. If the wind blows for days on end, we pray for stillness. Upon granting that, the sweltering heat with no breeze then compels us to pray for the wind again. Rain upon rain without ceasing drenches the spirit and begs for dry wind. Flooding the senses with moist and mildewy perspectives. Left to us, our ordered climates are always to our comfort, not at all to the growth and strength building, stretching, He has willed for us. The earth must expand and contact, remember it’s in labor; but also that all things that are alive must breathe! So, too, are we who call ourselves the Forgiven Children of a Consuming God. The only cure we know this side of heaven, is the antidote called – waking. The Spirit comes inside to wake us everyday to the Kingdom of heaven, which would rise within us, if we will but let go of the world we see. Grace not only pours out love and faith on the undeserving, it stirs the flames of that which will purge us of all that would fuel a destructive soul. It’s hard, and painful and requires a Holy endurance that can only be found in the fiery presence of God.

One day a finish shall reign, an end to the process of purification. Oh! What what a day that will be! Or…mayhap – not? Perhaps the only difference will be that we will no longer resist it, it will no longer be considered a “pain”. Oh that God is answering my prayer that my comfort won’t call the shots to my living anymore!

I leave you with some ***quotes from George MacDonald*** in his sermon called Consuming Fire. What perspective our Lord bequeathed to him! So great a heritage we have! Where knowledge brings true growth -Life! And that knowledge moves our feet into action. Obeying the laws of God as joy.

***Nothing but the burning love of God can rid sin out of anywhere. It is the law of nature – that is, the law of God – that all that is destructible shall be destroyed. When that which is immortal buries itself in destructible – when it receives all it’s messages from without, through the surrounding region of self, and none from within, from the eternal doors opening inward into God’s presence – it cannot, through immortal still, know it’s own immortality. The destructible must be burned out of it, or begin to be burned out of it, before it can partake of eternal life.

God is against sin: insofar as, and while, they and sin are one, He is against them – against their desires, their aims, their fears and their hopes. And thus He is altogether and always for them.
God thinks and feels against vileness and selfishness, of the unrest of inassuageable repulsion with which He regards such conditions. God thus revealed Himself in such anger so the thoughtless people, fearing somewhat to do as they would, might leave a little room for that grace to grow in them, which would at length make them see that evil, and not fire, is the fearful thing.

A chimney above a huge house indicates the greatness of the building below, as the volcanoes of the world tell us how much fire is necessary to keep the old earth warm. For it is not the sun itself that warms the planet. The earth is like the human heart. The great glowing fire below us is God in the heart of the earth, and the great sun is God in the sky, keeping it warm on the other side. Our gladness and pleasure, our trouble when we do wrong, our love for all about us, that is God inside us. All the beautiful things and loveable people, all the lessons we get from life, and whatever comes to us, is God on the outside.***
– George MacDonald

The God of Shalom (peace – completeness) brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep, our Lord Yeshua, by the blood of an eternal covenant. May God equip you with every good thing you need to do His will; and may He do in us whatever pleases Him, through Yeshua the Messiah. To Him be the glory forever and ever, amen!
– Hebrews 13:20-21

Repatence drew herself up from her knee-strewn posture with suppressed moans. She had been “at it” for hours. She had her “unclean self” in the stocks… willing the impurity from her thoughts to submit as she threw various “objects” of reticence at her wayward self. As she arose she took in the “scene”. Her rebellious nature glared back at her with a slight curve of laughter in her features. She let her shoulders drop and sighed.

Well Father, it seems it did no good to take myself captive. This part of me has nine lives and grins like a cat the more I try to expose it to Your discipline” she said aloud.

She does seem rather amusingly immortal, huh? ” A voice spoke from beside her, bending down He began to message her knees.

Repatence jumped and gasped aloud. Falling to the bed under shock and relief at the same time. It had been a while since her Lord had appeared so vividly. Though she never told a soul He appeared to her. Who would believe her. It was 2014 and noone testified to having “seen Him” anymore! Much less did they speak of His speaking to them! It was tantamount to being considered qualified to move into the psych-ward in a local hospital.

She leaned back against the stone wall of her humble room which framed her bed on two sides. Closing her eyes she giggled and blew out a alleviated breath. Yielding to His hands which “spoke” healing to her knees.

Is it possible my Lord, that my bad self keeps being resurrected by your enemy? The unkind and selfish thoughts don’t seem to be “killable”! She decided to just go with the flow and pour out her heart since He “was there” and she could not deny her knees now seemed to have forgotten their vigil upon the stone floor.

He smiled and it went from His face to her eyes and into the very core of her being. How she loved Him!

No, I do not believe that power is the enemies to use. Look closely, she never died.” His voice was gentle with a touch of humility and splashed with humor that settled the dust of peace in the world around her.

She looked closely as instructed. Her bent form in the stock, head turned towards a hand poking out of its captive hole, as if observing a hang nail quite content in its imprisonment. It was ridiculous, of course, as the image was only in her mind. One drawn up to help her in her determination to “beat down” the inpure thoughts that came as a result of her afternoon encounter with Mary-Margret, a sister in the shelter she worked with. Mary’s harsh words failed yet again to produce the humility that had been intended over her spacey-ness while serving the afternoon meal; resulting in an upturned tray and a burn on her hand.

The hand He now held in His and administered the same language through His fingers as He did her knees a moment before.

Am I crazy Lord? I was just trying to ‘die to myself’ and the image helped.” She began to tear up.

His beautiful hands, holes and all embraced her face and brought it in line with His own. She followed its path and meet His eyes, now full of their own tears.

Let’s take her out of the stocks dear one, she doesn’t need to ‘die’ as you understand dying. I did that. Within you, Repetance, is both light and dark and this is the path you walk with Me. Your desire is known to the One who knows you best. That’s why I’m here.” His words were more than residents of His mouth, they became!

The image in her mind dissipated and faded as she watched a tear roll down His scarred cheek. She reached a finger to touch it as it followed the path to His chin. Wonder filled her hand and vibrated up her arm and found expression in her throat in a awe-struck tremble. How she loved Him!

Why do You cry my Lord? She asked.

He caught her hand and kissed it.
Because it breaks My heart to see you try so hard to do a thing I’ve done. Give your wayward thoughts to Me as a gift, dear one, and I shall show you My grace.”

“But, how can I consider them a “gift” my Lord, they are unworthy of You!?!” She cried.

Because you give them to Me, sweet one, they become a treasure of priceless worth to Me and the Father! We can make them into Love, I don’t require you to understand, just to trust.” He said, looking deep into her eyes.

The word ‘but’ began to form on her lips. She “grabbed it” and frowned.
He began to laugh out loud with delight. A laughter that intoxicated without humiliation, and she joined Him. Knowing without knowing why He found such humor in her action, unseen and unspoken but known!

What a fitting name Abba gave you, Repetance, so much like repentence! You do embody the character! What delight you are!” He said with the affection that spun stars into existence.

Why don’t You do this with everyone Lord? You know, appear and talk and laugh and heal just like this.” She asked

“Why do you think I do not? He asked, seriousness replaced His demeanor.

Repetance turned red at the thought of her ignorance. She looked down. Immediately her face was brought back up to meet His gaze. Those other worldly eyes holding her captive now in the freedom of His love.

“Because noone talks about it, I guess. I mean noone! I suppose it’s natural to assume You do not. Though I realize it may not reflect the truth. Am I correct in keeping these moments to myself? She explained with the heart of yearning.

“Perhaps, at least until you are prompted again to share. There are moments that I keep just between us. Yet, remember yesterday when the gentleman asked you if God talks to you. And you withdrew, unsure and afraid.” He said and inquired.

She remembered well, nodding her head. Embarrassment creeping up her neck again.

Those are times you must be bold and unafraid and speak dear one. You will know and must act when prompted and let Me deal with what others think, say or even do to you at such times. Many are spoken to just like this but they, just like you, are afraid. It breaks My heart and keeps My followers weak. Which can be made into strength, but it is the heart of Abba that His children witness to My aliveness and realness to others.” His eyes were sad and held no blame. Repetance could see the grace alive in Him!

I will speak next time my Lord, if You will help me. I will speak.” She threw her arms around Him.

Again His laughter rang out against the walls of her room and His arms returned her affection.

That is all that is required dear one.” He said, “And no more stocks, eh?” He whispered as His fulness faded. Repetance looked down at her hand and smiled at the tear that had not yet dried on her finger.

Yes, my Lord, I understand. No more stocks, and I will speak and give my many many “gifts” to You. And follow You like this finger followed Your tears. .. straight into Abba’s heart. I love You!

2 Peter 3:8-9

Moreover, dear friends, do not ignore this: with the Lord, one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day. The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some people think of slowness; on the contrary, He is Patient with you; for it is not His purpose that anyone should be destroyed, but that everyone should turn from his sins.

In good times, people pray that God be generous with time; in bad/hard times the last thought to occur is to ask Him for the same generosity.

Everything takes time. Building and tearing down. The illusion that tearing down is “faster” and “easier” is one great mirage of time. For God to build His child up, He must first break them down. God can skip the “tear down” part, but He takes no short cuts; hence to be His child you must be sifted, renovated. If anyone has ever taken an “old” house and renovated, you know that “timetables” will be in constant flux.

Time is the most illusionary aspects of this life. Every single author of scripture said the exact same thing before their earthly life ceased.

Be ready, Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah is coming soon!!

Yeshua, Himself used the same words both at His earthly leave and in Revelations. How many since?? Do you tell people this? If not, you are missing something vital; something all “the greats” before you had. A sense of what it means to say soon. Peter touches on it in the chapter above.  Listen as he expands…

2 Peter 3:15-16

And think of our Lord’s patience as deliverance, just as our dear brother Saul (Paul) also wrote you, following the wisdom God gave him. Indeed, he speaks about these things in all his letters. They contain some things that are hard to understand, things which the uninstructed and unstable distort, to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.

Note: the other Scriptures referred to here are Old Testament writings. As Peter writes this he has no idea that roughly a thousand years later his own (and Paul’s) letters would be ordained by God to become Scriptures :-). The “timing” is absolutely not coincidental!

One of the greatest gifts God gives is Time. It is also the gift we as people are the least eloquent of giving. Our perception of time is so distorted we don’t know how. The only way we become educated about what Time really is – is at Yeshua, Himself’s  feet. Incidently Paul was taught by Yeshua, Himself after He returned to the Father. Its in Acts if you are curious.

Now note the verses at the beginning. Notice the words?

Do not ignore this.

When Peter said this it was important. Time is not linear or chronological or any of the “things” you learn in science class. That concept of time is cyclical…structure given by God to measure our days for the purpose of giving man much needed definition to their daily/nightly needs.

The Time that is often confused with this is spoken of in Psalms 31 by David

Psalms 31:15

But, I, trust in You, Adonai (Lord); I say, “You are my God.” My times are in Your hand;

To be sure David is speaking of the cyclical times, but moreover he is referring to every aspect of Time in which God would use him! And God is still using him today!!

Time is no mystery to God, nor does it need be strained! Once we have listened to its Author about it. We, too, will say what David said and be completely changed in how we pray to and for when asking God for “it” (time). It will also become obvious that the greatest gift one can give; first and foremost to God, but then anyone is Time!

We live in what the whole Bible refers to as “the Time of the End”. This is no disaster/traumatic filled thing as is taught and hollywood-ized today. This is AMAZING perfection and purpose. Time is wrapping up, so to speak! Do not ignore or neglect to ask Adonai what this means! Take notes on what He says and Stand Firm as instructed, use every bit of time as He directs because its important. Don’t be flippant about your seconds, minutes or hours folks; because the first thing Yeshua says is “You don’t have Time. As in ownership or possession. His hands are the only Ones who move on the Clock of Heaven 🙂

Child of the Stables Secret Birth

December 11, 2012 at 1:52 am (Songs) (, , , , , )

Hymn by Timothy Dudley-Smith in 1926

Child of the stables secret birth,
The Lord by right of the lords of earth,
Let the angels sing of a King newborn;
A crown of thorn for that infant head
Cradled soft in the manger bed.

Eyes that shine in the lanterns ray;
A face so small in a nest of hay,
Face of a child who is born to scan
The world He made through the eyes of man:
And from that face in the final day
Earth and heaven shall flee away.

Voice that rang through the courts on high,
Contracted now to a wordless cry,
A voice to master the wind and wave,
The human heart and the hungry grave:
The voice of God through the cedar trees
Rolling forth as the sound of seas.

Infant hands in a mother’s hand,
For none but Mary may understand
Whose are the hands and fingers curled
But His who fashioned and made the world;
And through these hands in the hour of death
Nails shall strike to the wood beneath.

Child of the stables secret birth,
The Father’s gift to a wayward earth,
To drain the cup in a few short years
Of all our sorrows, our sins and tears-
Ours the prize for the road He trod
Risen with Christ; at peace with God.

Grace and peace in Yeshua the Messiah ❤
