But I withhold my pen; for vain were the fancy, by treatise or sermon or poem or tale, to persuade a man to forget himself. He cannot if he would. Sooner will he forget the presence of a raging tooth. There is no forgetting of ourselves but in the finding of our deeper, our true self — God’s idea of us when he devised us — the Christ in us. Nothing but that self can displace the false, greedy, whining self, of which, most of us are so fond and proud. And that self no man can find for himself; seeing of himself he does not even know what to search for.

image

It is just the old way–that of obedience. If you have ever seen the Lord, if only from afar–if you have any vaguest suspicion that the Jew Jesus, who professed to have come from God, was a better man, a different man–one of your first duties must be to open your ears to His words and see whether they seem to you to be true. Then, if they do, to obey them with your whole strength and might. This is the way of life, which will lead a man out of its miseries into life indeed.

image

God is all right—why should we mind standing in the dark for a minute outside His window? Of course we miss the inness, but there is a bliss of its own in waiting. What if the rain be falling, and the wind blowing; what if we stand alone, or, more painful still, have some dear one beside us, sharing our outness; what even if the window be not shining, because of the curtains of good inscrutable drawn across it; let us think to ourselves, or say to our friend, ‘God is; Jesus is not dead; nothing can be going wrong, however it may look so to hearts unfinished in childness.’ Let us say to the Lord, ‘Jesus, art Thou loving the Father in there? Then we out here will do His will, patiently waiting till He open the door. We shall not mind the wind or the rain much. Perhaps thou art saying to the Father, ‘Thy little ones need some wind and rain: their buds are hard; the flowers do not come out. I cannot get them made blessed without a little more winter-weather.’ Then perhaps the Father will say, ‘Comfort them, my son Jesus, with the memory of thy patience when thou wast missing Me. Comfort them that thou wast sure of Me when everything about thee seemed so unlike Me, so unlike the place thou hadst left.

image

Doubt swells and surges, with swelling doubt behind!
My soul in storm is but a tattered sail,
Streaming its ribbons on the torrent gale;
In calm, ’tis but a limp and flapping thing:
Oh! swell it with Thy breath; make it a wing,
To sweep through Thee the ocean, with Thee the wind
Nor rest until in Thee its haven it shall find.

image

If ye have faith and doubt not, if ye shall say unto this mountain,’Be thou removed and vast into the sea’, it shall be done.” Good people have been tempted to tempt the Lord their God upon the strength of this saying. Happily for such, the assurance to which they would give the name of faith generally fails them in time. Faith is that which, knowing the Lord’s Will, goes and does it; or not knowing it, stands and waits. But put God to the question in any other way than by saying, “What will You have me to do?” Is an attempt to compel God to declare Himself, or to hasten His work; the man is therein dissociating himself from God so far that, instead of acting by the Divine Will from within, he acts in God’s face, as it were, to see what He will do. Man’s first business is, “What does God want me to do?”, not “What will God do if I do so and so?”

image

God does not, by the instant gift of His Spirit, make us always feel right, desire good, love purity, aspire after Him and His Will. Therefore either He will not, or He cannot. If He will not, it must be because it would not be well to do so. If He cannot, then He would not if He could; else a better condition than God’s is conceivable to the mind of God. The truth is this: He wants to make us in His own image, choosing the good, refusing the evil. How should He effect this if He were always moving us from within, as He does at divine intervals, toward the beauty of holiness? For God made our individuality as well as, and a greater marvel than, our dependence; made our apartness from Himself, that freedom should bind us divinely dearer to Himself, with a new and inscrutable marvel of Love; for the Godhead is still at the root, is the making root of our individuality, and the freer the man, the stronger the bond that binds him to Him who made his freedom.

God’s Perfect Response to Satan’s Accusations ~ Part 3

July 19, 2013 at 1:22 am (WSGD Newes) (, , , , , , , , , )

image

***Taken from The Christian in Complete Armor by William Gurnall.***

3. God uses the devils wiles to make His saints wary.

You are not dealing with an enemy without his own store of intelligence, but with one who has wit enough to spill your comfort and spoil your joy if not closely watched. Your peace is the dainty tidbit he gapes for. To keep the flies out of your cupboard in summer is no harder than to bar Satan from your conscience. He has robbed the saints of many a sweet meal and sent them supperless to bed; be always on your guard, for he roams your way also.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I love that Gurnall points out that Satan is not STUPID!. A fool – yes…(the fool is the one who says there’s NO God) but dumb – no. In a world which considers “intelligence” to market at such high value; the “wisdom” of the world has bought the devils wares. His mantra is “Get smart”. On the other hand the same world thinks walking with Elohim is a “mindless” excuse for living in a hard world; That emotions trump “logic” to believe in Yeshua (Jesus). Cute trick enemy of my God…but a lie none the less. Elohim is the supreme intelligentsia!! And He gives the mind of the Messiah to His children. ( 1 Corinthians 2:16 )
Here’s the truth that puts such lies to the everlasting furnace of fools: this world does not appreciate the intelligence Adonai (the Lord) gifts His kids with! It appears foolish to a fool, and confounds the “elite” minds of this world. It takes on the same hue as God, Himself did to Satan in the beginning. Satan thought God was dumb! The children of the adversary think the pursuit of Elohim’s wisdom is dumb, too. In other words…nothing lowers a person’s “IQ” faster than distain towards God. Be wary of putting “stock” in what this world calls “smart”. Better to be a “dimwit” to mankind than found a fool before Adonai.

Workin’ It Out – Part 1

April 28, 2013 at 3:01 am (Remodeling the Mind, WSGD Newes) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

1 John 4:1

Dear friends, don’t trust every spirit. On the contrary, test the spirits to see whether they are from God;…

1 Thessalonians 5:19-22

Don’t quench the Spirit, don’t despise inspired messages. But do test everything – hold onto what is good, but keep away from every form of evil.

Philippians 2:12-13

So, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed when I was with you, it is even more important that you obey now when I am away from you: keep working out your deliverance with fear and trembling, for God is the One working among you both the willing and the working for what pleases Him.

I have spent much time in prayer, sitting somewhere with an armada of books, especially my Bible, note books for note taking, and a good amount of “heavenly elbow juice” (this comes from the Spirit of the Living God – not my human “effort”); over the scriptures above. I will share a few of the jots I have been given, but I must emphasize that each of us must pursue, dig, scratch, scrape, wrestle, chew, ask, seek and knock for themselves for any scripture to come alive to them. What others have shared from their own seeking…has been of great influence to me, but I say with absolute 100% assurance; following someone else’s “prescription’s” for studying to show yourself approved exactly as they do it, will not work for anyone but the one the “prescription” has been written for. Not one thing does God intend to repeat, except that which writes a unique and individual name down in His Book via adoption. The “method” of adoption is different for everyone, the way He feeds them is specified to their particular needs and “make up”. That He will always use His Word, the Way is Yeshua (Jesus), the Spirit the Counselor and Enabler is the limit to our common ground in walking with God. Sometime God puts us in a particular class with others on a specific lesson, but each one comes away with different hues being “bathed in the same general color”. So my intent here is not to say “Do this exactly and you will “arrive” at the “same destination.” Rather, I am sharing some amazing things that have helped me in pursuing the goal of the scriptures above.

First of all in regards to the first Scripture -1 John. The word spirits always seemed to “throw me off”.  So much time has been spent on my part asking God to make clear what these spirits are. I will attempt to make clear what’s been given to me in clarification. Just like an action can not reveal the motive behind it, often words are cloaked in a spirit that is opposite or in conflict with the words spoken. Example: We have become habitual at saying “Hi” with a question “How are you?” Most of the time the spirit of the question is “Hi.” Not really wanting to know how the person is. 90% of the time its a situation where one does not have the time to really listen to how one is much less can one give an answer that correctly states how one is at the time. Grocery store check out lines would be lengthy should the spirit of such a question be followed :-).
Most of us answer verbatim “Fine” or “good” or at times some short form of complaint “I’ve been better.”
Another is how often the words “I’m sorry” get said. I could go on but I pray ya “get my drift” 🙂

What John is calling us to is a testing that uses discernment/insight. It takes listening with spiritual ears, not just the ones on your head. This takes a continual invitation for God to whisper in your ear moment by moment…which either seems extreme/absurd to us or “hits” a nerve that makes sense without our intellect really understanding it. Whew…hope that made sense 🙂
So testing the spirit is very important when we are looking to know God as He really is, and the best form of this testing is the Word of God. Especially if something we hear seems to “jar” our view of Him; either read or spoken. Hence, why we must be wise and never sever our connection with the Lord.

The third Scripture in Philippians also had a bit of a word war involved. The word work in connection to our own deliverance (often translated salvation); seemed contradictory to me. Since God alone gets the credit for and has done all the work for my salvation/deliverance, it threw me off a bit. I believe today, this work refers to the inward press to know God more each day. To the point that we really do learn from Him, about Him, something we didn’t know the day before. This work, rarely uses the physical body but is mostly done within the mind, heart and will of a person.

So this series will be very unique in style and tone from typical “work outs”. My “muscles” tend to get a work out a bit different than everyone else. The “muscle” that is always being either stretched or grown is the trust “muscle” for, with and about God. Seeing that each of us has been wounded in our trust departments differently, we need a God who understands more than we see and can even remember and has a personal investment in correcting how these muscles have been developed.

This is part 1, which is more of a description of what’s to come. I can guarantee an adventure, and pray that the Spirit use, as with every word you find here, this series to build up, His body.

Purpose and Provision ~ Part 3

March 28, 2013 at 11:09 pm (WSGD Newes) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

Matthew 6:9-13

You, therefore, pray like this:
Our Father in heaven! May Your Name be kept holy.
May Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us the food we need today.
Forgive us what we have done wrong, as we too have forgiven those who have wronged us.

And do not lead us into hard testing, but keep us safe from the Evil One.
For Kingship, power, and glory are Yours forever.

Amen.’

Focus for part 3:

> the word and meaning of Name

> the word and meaning of the word Father

~ Name ~

When studying the scriptures it has become a absolute must that I ask the Spirit to lead me to Yeshua (Jesus) – the Teacher for direction and leading to the Father (El Elyon). For it is Adonai Elohim (the Lord God) who has decreed that He be made known. He is known by His Name. Not like I, Lisa, am known by mine. There are soo many Lisa’s, it is my last name that distinguishes my name from all the others and not completely at that. For there are surely more than one of us in combination. The meaning of my name is consecrated or devoted to God. For which, I pray, I honor; yet not everyone named Lisa desires such.

Names are not given as they used to be; **where a name was a representation of whom the individual is/was, based on their character and function. The nature and character of God is found within His Names, which are lost or obscured in our translations and Greek/Western view of scripture. Just as a name can give us a clue about the individual’s character, we can also find some interesting clues about the character of the family lineage. Below is a list of the sons of Adam, the lineage of the promised Messiah, as found in Genesis chapter 5 with the Hebraic meaning for each name:

Adam  – man
Seth – appoint (set in place)
Enosh – mortal (also means man, as man is mortal)
Kenyan – dwelling place (literally a nest)
Mahalalel – light of God (also means praise as it illuminates another)
Jared – comes down
Enoch – dedicate
Methuselah – his death brings
Lamech – despair
Noah – comfort

When the meanings of these names are combined, we discover a very interesting prophesy of the coming Messiah based on the functional descriptions of the names of Adam’s descendants. (Get ready to make that ‘whoooaa’ sound 🙂 )

Man appointed a mortal dwelling, the light of God will come down dedicated, His death brings the despairing comfort.

I.E. Yeshua, Salvation, God with us, Lamb of God, (Jesus) **taken from His Name Is One; An Ancient Hebrew Perspective of the Names of…God. by Jeff A. Brenner**

Kinda makes you look at all those names listed in Matthew and wonder, huh? I recommend you look into it…its just as jaw dropping! Everything God does is FULL of meaning/function/purpose! Not a jot or tittle is “simply placed to “fill in a blank space””.
His Name is above all names! Full of character and function with the purpose of being known!

I highly recommend you getting the book referenced above and below…you will simply just be awed from front to back in the detail of the God we serve! 🙂

~ Father ~

The Hebrew meaning of the word Father is: Strength of the house.

This stands in much conflict in our day due to the fact that somehow the mother has gotten this reputation. The woman of a house is most often the most revered. Not without reason, us women have worked hard to project this persona into the family dynamic. Women do have a “strength” but not like a father. (This is another subject, for another time)
**The following comes from the Jeff Brenner book listed above but abbreviated. The section on God – the Father is pages long and I need not repeat it all.** Looking at the language from a Messianic perspective I have changed the small s in sons to caps in order to get straight to the point. All things such as families, marriage, community and so on are a representation of the Father’s will on earth as it is in heaven.

**The Father builds His family through His Son(s). It is the responsibility of the Father to teach and instruct His Son(s) in family matters so that when the time comes for them to lead the family, they will do so according to the will of their Father.

As sons of God, it is our responsibility to listen and learn from our Father who is in heaven so that we can grow to follow in His will.** (page 83)

So when we say ‘Our Father’ we are identifying that we no longer “look horizontally” for guidance and instruction but “vertically”. We are adopting a heavenly family dynamic, in which God is the strength of our house.

**The Father of the household manifest many of the characteristics of God to His family. He is the el – power, the older experienced ox that is yoked to His children to teach them. As the adon – lord of the family it is His responsibility to bring life to the family through His own work, teaching and decision-making. He is the mela’ak – messenger, whose responsibility is to bring the messages of God to His family. He is the moshia – deliverer of His family by protecting them from evil, both literal and figurative. As the borey – creator He creates new life. He is the qanah – jealous one by guarding over His family. He is to be qadosh – set apart (holy) from the world and devoted to God and His teachings.** (page 115) again I replaced small letters for caps to emphasize the Father in heaven. The only perfect Father at all these things.

The following scripture wraps up this concept of Fatherhood perfectly.

Isaiah 63:15-16

Look down from heaven; and see from Your holy, glorious dwelling.
Where are Your zeal and Your mighty deeds, Your inner concern and compassion?
Don’t hold back, for You are our Father.
Even if Abraham were not to know us, and Israel were not to acknowledge us, You, Adonai, are our Father, our Redeemer of Old is Your Name
.

As we can clearly see…when we say ‘Our Father…may Your Name be kept holy…we are saying a wealth of things! Yeshua (Jesus) knew all these things when He taught this prayer! To Hebrew disciples who knew this language well and still they did not totally “get it” right away. The vastness of God’s detail and purposes are so that our finite minds must stay still and “chew” on His words for a time just to get a glimpse! It is full of this kind of knowledge and anticipation that Yeshua gave us these words as a “doorway” into prayer. He knew His/our Father, He knew that the depth and width of all the Father longs to teach us! He also knew that the Father, Himself, will take full responsibility for teaching us all we need to know…even if it takes an eternity!!

May His will be done on earth as it is in Heaven…today…now!! Amen!
