Jesus Calls Us ~ A Hymn by Cecil Frances Alexander (1818-1895)

Jesus calls us; over the tumult
Of our life’s wild, restless sea,
Day by day His sweet voice soundeth
Saying, “Child, follow Me

Jesus calls us from the worship
Of the vain world’s golden store,
From each idol that would keep us,
Saying, “Child, love Me more.”

In our joys and in our sorrows,
Days of toil and hours of ease,
Still He calls in cares and pleasures,
Child, love Me more than these.”

Jesus calls us: by Thy mercies,
Savior, may we hear Thy call,
Give our hearts to Thine obedience,
Serve and love Thee best of all.

I love the old Hymnals, but do not always love the style of music they have been written in. Its my own fault if there’s a fault in it. I do enjoy the ballads some were tuned to, but often to me they have all “sounded the same”…musically speaking. Their words, however, cause my whole being to enter into worship! So I go to these as devotionals often. I have a couple of “books” that share a bit of their “history” and then the words of each song. I am always struck at how rare it is that with all our education and technology; so very few write songs like those found in “Hymnals”. I mean no lack of appreciation for contemporary worship or their writers!! Yet even those of the best today will share how the times of “less” produced more. History has application in flavor and definition that gets lost in the “up-to-date” and latest fashion in its depth.
No accident!

I don’t even know the “tune” this song was written to. I have never heard it or sang it rather to the notes it was written with.

This songs words sing without the need for instrumentation. The soul lifted up to Abba, becomes the very music of His heart!

Worship O Worship the Lord!!

March 5, 2013 at 10:46 pm (Songs) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Every now and then our Great Artisan, Creator of All…word, sound, thought, color, substance, element and everything yet un-named but not unknown to Him; He gives us a way to worship that defy’s time, space and imagination. For words at best fall incredibly short and unwind…the deepest rhythm and treble of sound falls into silence that drowns out into nothingness and then thunders in glorious roars and speaks unintelligible language to the dust of places only imagined by us; who try; Oh how we try to do worship justice to Him! Yet He looks only for our hearts to sell everything and stand under the blood of Yeshua to be purchased…forever. Then!! Then the heavens break out in worship for us! Dropping little tiny aquatic prisms like this into our sphere…and again He says…”Well done.”

Oh how much greater and bountless is He that calls to our deepest desires and pulls them ever towards Him! This video has captured but a tiny fragment of this call. The deeper pull will come out from within, where He dwells, and draw you to His feet.

WORSHIP, O worship this King!!
