Circumcision

Lord, has my heart been circumcised?

You, who created Life and death and flesh and bone

You, are the Shaper of my clay

Fill my lamp with the oil of Your Spirit

Cut off in my inmost being that which is dead to You

And I will be poured out and filled in synchronicity

Oh Lord, only You are the Alpha and Omega

First and Last, Beginning and End

Only in You are opposites made whole into a new thing altogether

I would speak of this – Your chaos and complexity and speak as if it is the simple truth

Yet let my mouth stay at Your Hand

And let my ears call to my heart at the sound of Your Works

For Your Voice is all the learning, filling, and purpose of this small soul

Light this Lamp, Yeshua – and continually fill the chamber of its fuel

And let me not doubt, when You put the Lamp out –

That Darkness is Your dwelling as well

All things – all – are Yours and for Your Glory

Forever and ever – amen

A Psalm by Lisa VanValkenburgh

Isaiah 45:2-7

“I will go ahead of you, leveling the hills, shattering the bronze gates, smashing the iron bars. I will give you treasures hoarded in the dark, secret riches hidden away, so that you will know that I, Adonai, calling you by your name, am the God of Isra‘el. It is for the sake of Ya’akov my servant, yes, for Isra’el my elect, that I call you by your name and give you a title, although you don’t know me. I am Adonai; there is no other; besides me there is no God. I am arming you, although you don’t know me, so that those from the east and those from the west will know that there is none besides me – I am Adonai; there is no other. I form light, I create darkness; I make well-being, I create woe; I, Adonai, do all these things.”

Isaiah 45:12

“I am the one who made the earth! I created human beings on it! I – my hands – stretched out the heavens, and directed all their number.”

Isaiah 45:22-23

“Look to me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God; there is no other. In the name of myself I have sworn, from my mouth has rightly gone out, a word that will not return – that to me every knee will bow and every tongue will swear about me – that only in Adonai are justice and strength.”

Where the Heart Is? ~ Part 4 ~

Where the Heart Is?

Part 4

He was the youngest of eight children, a shepherd, an unaccountable warrior (in the worlds eyes) at first, a soldier, a musician, a poet, husband, father, and a King. There are two disciples mentioned in the Word of God that were given “names” as attributes to their character at heart that I’ve always longed for. One was John – the Disciple whom Yeshua (Jesus) loved. David – the one known as – A man after Gods own heart. David is the man listed at the beginning. He was famous for his shepherding skills, warrior skills, an affair – (but more to the point his repentant heart – after), his reign as King of Israel and how God blessed him, a continuation of a promise from God in the lineage of a Messiah, and Psalms. The word, heart, is found up to 122 times in this book, more than any other book in the Word. Listen to what Adonai (the Lord) said to Samuel when he was sent to look for a king for Israel. Samuel has arrived at David’s family’s house and has requested to see Jesse’s sons. Seven have been brought out and Eliab has made an impression on Samuel.

1 Samuel 16:6 – 7

When they had come, he looked at Eli’av (Eliab) and said, “This has to be Adonai’s (the Lord’s) anointed one, here before him.” But Adonai said to Sh’mu’el (Samuel), “Don’t pay attention to how he looks or how tall he is, because I have rejected him. Adonai doesn’t see the way humans see – humans look at the outward appearance, but Adonai looks at the heart.”

Adonai then picks David :-). From Gods own mouth He chose David for his heart. God also chose David for HIS (Gods) heart! Two hearts were the key to David’s choosing – God’s and David’s. The purpose?? Our hearts. Adonai knew we’d need David – a human born from the flesh of man alone (like us) with a heart for God. Then He sent Yeshua (Jesus) – a man born of His Spirit and flesh with a heart for God ALONE.

I urge you in your own time to look up every reference to the heart in Psalms – as I can not cover them all here. Keep in mind all the “things” the heart is – listed in Part 1. If you cover all the different ways to say heart – the references in Psalms to the heart far outnumber 122 times! David knew the key to hearing God’s Voice and where the strength came from to serve that Voice – the heart.

Psalm 16:7-11 (Emphasis mine and ties in all 4 parts of this series)

I bless Adonai, my counselor; at night my inmost being instructs me. I always set Adonai before me; with him at my right hand, I can never be moved; so my heart is glad, my glory rejoices, and my body too rests in safety; for you will not abandon me to Sh’ol, you will not let your faithful one see the Abyss. You make me know the path of life; in your presence is unbounded joy, in your right hand eternal delight.

Psalm 17:3

You probed my heart, you visited me at night, you assayed me without finding evil thoughts that should not pass my lips.

Psalm 19:12-14

Who can discern unintentional sins? Cleanse me from hidden faults. Also keep your servant from presumptuous sins, so that they won’t control me. Then I will be blameless and free of great offense. May the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart be acceptable in your presence, Adonai, my Rock and Redeemer.

Psalm 25:1

I lift my inner being to you, Adonai.

Psalm 26:2

Examine me, Adonai, test me, search my mind and my heart. (Notice the mind is not the heart)

Psalm 27:8

“My heart said of you, ‘Seek my face.'” Your face, Adonai, I will seek.

Psalm 28:7

Adonai is my strength and shield; in him my heart trusted, and I have been helped. Therefore my heart is fill with joy, and I will sing praises to him.

Psalm 49:3

My mouth is about to speak wisdom; my heart’s deepest thoughts will give understanding.

Psalm 62:1,5,7&8

My soul waits in silence for God alone; my salvation comes from him.

My soul, wait in silence for God alone, because my hope comes from him.

My safety and honor rest on God. My strong rock of refuge are in God. Trust in him, people, at all times; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.

Psalm 63:1,8

O God, you are my God; I will seek you eagerly. My heart thirst for you, my body longs for you in a land parched and exhausted, where no water can be found.

my heart clings to you; your right hand supports me.

Oh yes, David knew Yeshua well before He was “born” here on earth. David’s heart is written in the pages of Gods Word so that we could SEE – that if He could be heard before He was given a “human voice box” – He can be heard after He has come, died, risen and ascended back to where He was heard before by David, Samuel, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Jeremiah, Isaiah, and the list goes on and on. God makes every heart

Psalm 33:13-15

Adonai looks out from heaven; he sees every human being; from the place where he lives he watches everyone living on earth, he who fashioned the hearts of them all and understands all they do.

…He makes them for one purpose and one alone – to seek Him! To be loved, led, fed, and taught by Him and Him alone. That is the purpose for which we have been made (our function – good). He, alone, is where the heart is. We must invite Him there and seek Him.

You will build a house for the Lord your God in and of yourself. he will be the craftsman, your heart the site, your thoughts the materials. Do not take fright because of your own lack of skill; he who requires this of you is a skillful builder, and he chooses others to be builders too.  ~ Hugh of St. Victor (1096-1141) German-born monk and writer.
