Empty has never felt so full

In the light of all that darkness can’t defeat

You fill this vessel flowing over

Till all that’s left of me is You

And empty has never felt so full

Full of unimagined beauty

Full of unlimited favor and affirmation

Full of Life that breathes and stretches time

Full of all that captures Your Divine

Drained, dragged, drowned and pulled

I am among the thick of me

Floundering, forgotten, flailed, and fallen

I taste the vile flow of my own reflection

Made of the fractured light of those around me

Seeking the high thoughts and praise of those full of void

Oh Empty – Elohim – do Empty me again

Then…empty will fill as full as the sea

Of life – and action – I’m bending my knees

Empty – oh Empty – this solemn and sulk

To the brimming and overflow of Your endless brook

Broken and humble – and standing tall

I am Emptied – Emptied

Emptied into Your Hand – and full

Full as never before…I am Emptied

And – Empty has never felt so full

Lord, has my heart been circumcised?

You, who created Life and death and flesh and bone

You, are the Shaper of my clay

Fill my lamp with the oil of Your Spirit

Cut off in my inmost being that which is dead to You

And I will be poured out and filled in synchronicity

Oh Lord, only You are the Alpha and Omega

First and Last, Beginning and End

Only in You are opposites made whole into a new thing altogether

I would speak of this – Your chaos and complexity and speak as if it is the simple truth

Yet let my mouth stay at Your Hand

And let my ears call to my heart at the sound of Your Works

For Your Voice is all the learning, filling, and purpose of this small soul

Light this Lamp, Yeshua – and continually fill the chamber of its fuel

And let me not doubt, when You put the Lamp out –

That Darkness is Your dwelling as well

All things – all – are Yours and for Your Glory

Forever and ever – amen

A Psalm by Lisa VanValkenburgh

Isaiah 45:2-7

“I will go ahead of you, leveling the hills, shattering the bronze gates, smashing the iron bars. I will give you treasures hoarded in the dark, secret riches hidden away, so that you will know that I, Adonai, calling you by your name, am the God of Isra‘el. It is for the sake of Ya’akov my servant, yes, for Isra’el my elect, that I call you by your name and give you a title, although you don’t know me. I am Adonai; there is no other; besides me there is no God. I am arming you, although you don’t know me, so that those from the east and those from the west will know that there is none besides me – I am Adonai; there is no other. I form light, I create darkness; I make well-being, I create woe; I, Adonai, do all these things.”

Isaiah 45:12

“I am the one who made the earth! I created human beings on it! I – my hands – stretched out the heavens, and directed all their number.”

Isaiah 45:22-23

“Look to me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God; there is no other. In the name of myself I have sworn, from my mouth has rightly gone out, a word that will not return – that to me every knee will bow and every tongue will swear about me – that only in Adonai are justice and strength.”

A Little Longing

May 18, 2011 at 3:03 am (Psalms) (, , , , , , , )

Blot out the memories of my iniquities

Let the limbs of my body forget they had no fear of You

You, oh Lord, have entered this heart

You, oh Lord, reside here inside

This frame of my portrait

Your Life Oh Lord, breathe out thru

These hands, feet, legs, eyes, and mouth

Let them die a thousand deaths each day

For You are my renewal and strength

Your words are my longevity

Apart from them I am nothing

Forget Oh lord, that I ever ran away

See me always as one at Your Feet

I love You Adonai

Because of Your Grace – I am Loved!

Everyday My Lord – You make me fall in love again with silence.

That sweet soundless serenity

Of a holy, sacred ache

Oh separation!

Distanced of the fullness of a unity meant

Touched, brushed, breathed upon – Yes

But, oh to be HELD, in the space emptied of all but YOU!
