God’s Perfect Response to Satan’s Accusations ~ Part 1

***This is a series taken from The Christian in Complete Armor by William Gurnall.***

What immeasurable comfort to know we are not left on our own to ward off Satan’s blows to our conscience. Is he clever? Your God is more so, who can safely lead you through the devil’s labyrinth right back to Himself!

1. God uses Satan’s own schemes to make His saints wise.

With them He unmasks the devil and exposes the children of Beelzebub, those offspring of the enemy who show the same craft as their infernal father in vexing the spirits of the saints. These are some of the ‘children of Satan’ whom Satan sends out to molest a saints peace.

Those who dig up the saints old sins, which God has forgiven and forgotten, merely to grieve His spirit and muddy His name; these show their devilish malice indeed, who take such pains to travel many years back to find a handful of dirt to throw on the saints face. Thus Shimei taunted David, ‘Come out, thou bloody man’ (2 Sam. 16:7). When you meet such reproaches, answer them as the French theologian Beza did those who, for lack of better ammunition, charged him for some impious poems he penned in his youth. ‘These men,’ he said, ‘begrudge me the pardoning mercy of God.’

There are also those who lie in wait for the saint to stumble, then point out every faltering step to make him seem graceless, and themselves graceful by comparison. Such pawns of the devil bring a curse upon themselves, although they think little of it. Consider Amalek, the remembrance of whose name God threatened to blot out from under heaven (Deut. 25:19). Do you recall what he did to deserve Gods wrath? He had his soldiers slay those at the rear of Moses’ company who were feeble and could not keep up with the rest! We can hardly imagine a greater cruelty, yet in God’s sight it is even worse to smite with the edge of a mocking tongue the feeble in grace.
Some wicked men sin with the evil purpose of troubling the saints spirit.

Perhaps you have watched a blasphemer in action. When he discovers there are those who love the Lord and cannot bear to hear His name taken in vain, he deliberately uses foul language the grates on chaste ears and troubles the sensitive spirits of his listeners. This rascal strikes Father and child at one blow. He thinks dishonoring God is not enough, but insists that the saint stand by to see and hear the wrong done to their heavenly Father.

Perhaps worst of all are those who
blame a child of God for the consequences of their own sins. This is why Ahab called the prophet ‘the troubler of Israel’ when it was really himself and his fathers house who were the blame. What grief to Moses’ spirit for the Israelites to lay at his door the blood of those who died in the wilderness. God, Himself, can testify Moses was their constant bail when at any time His hand was raised to destroy them.

The finest of God’s servants in this crooked generation of ours lie under the same curse. ‘We may thank them,’ say the profane, ‘for all the miseries of our nation; we were doing fine until they tried to reform us.’ Do not blame the good medicine that was administered, but the corrupt body of the nation that could not keep it down!!

Gracious Captivity

January 21, 2013 at 3:04 am (WSGD Newes) (, , , , , , , )

2 Corinthians 10:3-6
For although we do live in the world, we do not wage war in a worldly way; because the weapons we use are not worldly. On the contrary, they have God’s power for demolishing strongholds. We demolish arguments and every arrogance that raises itself up against the knowledge of God; we take EVERY thought captive and make it obey the Messiah. And when you have become completely obedient, then we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Lord, that person is slow and I’ve got things here that are “damming” up because of their lack of timeliness!

Child, thank you for including Me in your thoughts. My timing is perfect for you and for them. Will you not trust Me? I can make them move even slower and thus you, I can make them move even faster and accommodate your timeline. Which do you prefer, Mine or yours? If you are slowed down will you trust Me? If you are impatient, how can you begin?

Well Lord, You know I could be fired if I am late to work! And is it right that this person so inconveniences another? Can’t You just speed them up?

Child, it is your own thinking and ways that so inconveniences you. Not theirs, and now Mine. Again, do you not trust Me?

Yes, I do…but…

Well Lord I guess I will have to wait, since this person is still moving sooo slow.

(Grumble) God must not care for my job or needs!!! My boss doesn’t give a hoot about God’s timing! My spouse will care little about how I “trust” God without food on the table! Come on, Lord, a little help here!

The “slow-poke” stops completely.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The above is a rather elementary example of a “conversation” between a man or woman and the Messiah referred to in the above scripture. The ebb and flow of the human-tide of speaking at God while enlisting His help. The idea of including Him with the hope of a “payoff” of His getting one of His people out of our way! Notice how His answers attempt to move the focus off of themselves and the “slow-poke” and onto their hearts and Himself. When we have “work” to do or a “schedule” to keep we figure God should agree. If not He “just doesn’t understand what its like to live in this world”.

Notice in the verse above; the word worldly. Oh this word gets a bad rap! What is worldly anyway? Secular? Sinful? Evil? All the “above”? Yes and no. The difficulty lies in how those words are defined by each individual. Perception is 9/10ths of the definition. What if worldly was defined as…”what comes natural” or “what the majority of humans do”? For certain impatience is NOT something this world is lacking! Nor is self-absorption (which both “slow-poke” and “hurry-up” possess in abundance). So “hurry-up” asks Patience Incarnate to what? Give it (patience) to another? No. To give it to themselves? No. They ask God Himself to change! To see the world through their eyes and give what He Himself cannot impart and be who He is.

The scripture that gets tortured here is:
In fact, whatever you ask for in My name, I will do; so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me for something in My name, I will do it. (Jesus speaking in John chapter 14 verses 13-14)

The word name here is totally lost in translation! In His name means, in line with HIS CHARACTER, so ask for “slow-pokes” to be hurried all ya want, but God’s CHARACTER can not impart what He is not! He is not in a hurry. All things are right on time at all times, because He is moving the “hands of the clock”. If we are slowed down by anything or anyone its at His direction. The captive child of grace asks that they might trust Him more in a moment of impatience. This He gladly gives…without fail. Also note: I will do so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If we ask for something that will not glorify God or His Son, we will not receive the things that will, nor will He give what He is not. To ask Him to move “it”, is to demand our glory. Too many have a Santa Clause view of God. If I…then He…
Wrong God. And Santa can’t move slow-pokes out of our way! May be that God would grant the request to motivate a slow-poke, and the moment of irritability was meant to get us to ask Him for trust. Having asked for His will, the slow-poke suddenly finds their gas peddle. If not, we sit back and enjoy a moment of unexpected lack of rush!

Fellowsheep, we are at war! But not with guns, drugs, politics, behavior modification! The weapons of God’s power are fought from within our own hearts to take us out of this world right now, every minute. Notice the words that point to the warfare.

arguments and arrogance that raises itself up against the knowledge of God!

Not raises itself up against us. Too often we are not well versed in the knowledge of God. We don’t ask Him first what it is He would have us do and when, as our feet hit the floor everyday. If we did even half the time, and then obeyed half of half of that…based on the above scenario, most would not be “gainfully employed”. I’ll let the Spirit guide you through how to “chew” that one.
The weapons God, the Father, Yeshua, Jesus, and the Spirit fashions are always to get us closer to Him. Not to get us more comfy in life, more prosperous in the world, or better at being “good people”. But…rather, closer to His Kingdom, His heart, His protection, His provision, His dominion. He wages war, He fights the battle, He and only He can fashion weapons not of this world.

Taking every though captive to obey Yeshua (Jesus) is a full time job! Seems impossible and at the very least impractical in this world. Yes, indeed it is.

To be in Grace’s Captivity, is to be in the arms of a Savior. Once bloodied by our trespass; now clean and glorified by His finished work on a cross we could never bare! We would not have had the patience to begin to heal a living soul, give a sermon on the mount, much less turn the other cheek, offer both hands, feet, and heart to be nailed for the sins of all humanity. He has proven His trustworthiness, shall we offer our wrists to His captivity?
Ahhh, in it is found true freedom!
